I can no longer zoom photos on eBay listings. I am able to zoom with internet explore but not firefox 19.0.2. I checked the cache - emptied, I checked the cookies - none, and I am private browsing. I am using a desktop pc running windows 7.

Thank you.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Do you see the wording "Click to view larger image and other views"? eBay splits its content across several domains, for example, ebay.com, ebaystatic.com, ebayrtm.com, and ebaydesc.com. That wording, and the zooming functionality, comes from a script on ir.ebaystatic.com. It does not appear that you have any add-ons that block content on a site-by-site basis, so that domain should all be allowed. Hmmm....

If it works in IE, then an external block seems unlikely. However, could you check with you have Firefox set to use the same connection as IE? Check here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab, click the Settings button. To use the default connection used by IE, choose "No Proxy" or "Use System proxy settings".

If you reload the page, does anything change?

Regarding cookies, in private browsing mode, apparently they are now hidden from you. But can you just double-check to make sure that you are allowing cookies at least for the current session?

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy

Either of the following should work:

  • Firefox will: "Remember history"
  • Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" + checkbox set for Accept cookies from sites + checkbox set for Accept third-party cookies + no eBay sites listed when you click the Exceptions button

Am I going to loose my bookmarks? It says it will "try" to keep them. I can't afford to loose my bookmarks.

If in doubt about your bookmarks, you can make an extra backup. This article has the steps: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

Thank you as I was able to save my bookmarks. But, I went ahead and reset Firefox but I am still unable to zoom.

I changed from Use System proxy settings to No proxy, I reloaded the page and it didn't make a difference. As far as the privacy setting it went back to the original setting when I reset firefox, and it still didn't work so I changed it back to never remember history and it still won't work. I am beginning to think it is something else on my computer. I tried Chrome and it won't zoom on there either and it only zooms with IE.

Do you see the wording "Click to view larger image and other views", or is that completely missing? I ask because the same script that adds the zoom feature adds that text and it would help indicate whether the script is loading and running at all.

I wouldn't blame you. eBay is conflicting with Firefox all the time..

Yes, I see "Click to view larger image and other views". I have never had a problem with Firefox and eBay in the years and years I have had both.

Could you disable all your nonessential plugins? I consider Shockwave Flash essential, but I suspect most of the others are used only on occasion and could be re-enabled when needed. You would do that here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Plugins category

If you reload the eBay page, do you notice any difference?

I disabled everything except Shockwave Flash and reloaded the eBay page and it still won't zoom. I even went back and temporarily disabled Shockwave Flash and reloaded and it still wouldn't zoom.

I'm running out of ideas...

On rare occasions, Firefox's hardware graphics acceleration feature seems to cause unexpected issues. Could you try disabling it?

You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

After restarting Firefox, do you notice any difference?

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

jscher2000 - I unchecked the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available", restarted Firefox and still can't zoom.

cor-el - I booted into safe mode and still could not zoom in eBay.

Thanks for everyone's help. I welcome any additional suggestions.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

I have this same problem. I'm using 21.0 & I tired everything and still it doesn't work! What do I do since I sell alot of items on ebay and it's vital to me. I don't want to have to resort to using Explorer or Chrome with all the spyware Chrome has.

Please, how do I fix this, plain and simple!

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the affected files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

I can't believe nothing's working! This is soo ridiculous, for 1 problem and a major one at that no one can find a solution that actually works, NOTHING HAS WORKED! Well one that I'm going to use and that's deleting firefox and going with another browser other than Chrome! The worst version ever since the dawn of time!
