Hello, I recently was notified via the Firefox Plugin checker that my version of Silverlight was outdated. Going to the site linked, I made an attempt to download the latest version. However, upon making this attempt, I was informed that my browser did not support the 64-bit version of Silverlight. Not only that, but it now appears that I no longer have that plugin. Thus, I have a few questions- 1) Do I even need Silverlight? I can access YouTube just fine (video and sound plays just fine barring issues that have more to do with the age/wear of my computer than anything) 2) If the answer to above is "yes", how do I get Silverlight back?

Hello ponyparty, firefox as a 32-bit browser needs 32 version plugins(64-bit mode support for IE only) see: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/locale/en-us/html/installation-win-SL4.html

see in the next link in system requirements the Minimal Requirements (down in the page) : http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx#instruct

For me forget the Silverlight . It is something like adobe flash, but from microsoft.

thank you

1) Is there a 32-bit Silverlight available, or is it all 64-bit?

2) So you're saying that as long as I have Flash, I should be fine without Silverlight?

Silverlight is needed on iMAC to play back Netflix instant movies.

Netflix playback suddenly stopped working over the last day or so on Firefox (Safari is working just fine). Netflix said I needed to re-install the Silverlight plug-in. I followed the instructions to delete the plugin from HardDrive/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and downloaded the plug-in.

Still did not work.

Then I noticed that Silverlight is no showing up in the list of Firefox Tools/Add-ons even though it is in my Plug-ins folder. Should it show up there?

This morning I downloaded the latest Firefox version, and the problem still exists...

I have repeated the installation process a number of times to no avail including restarting the computer and running DiskUtility to correct preferences. Also cleaned iut Firefox cache.

Help anyone? Am I the only one having this issue?

Amazing. That did it!

Many thanks!!

I could have tried one million different approaches and would not have uncovered that solution.

Over the past few days I have chatted with Netflix and Microsoft and they both concluded it was not their problem, they were not aware of anyone else with this issue and so I was getting ready to stop using Firefox.

Might be good to make them aware of this solution.

ponyparty,

I had the same problem, with Netflix being the reason I was prompted to update my version of Silverlight. Netflix tech support was not at all helpful and just kept showing me the same table over and over, which stated that if I had Firefox 3.6 or higher (which I DID!) Silverlight should run properly. Unfortunately I received the same error over and over and over, even after updating my version of Firefox (as was recommended by both people I talked to at Netflix).

I am not a computer person. I do not know the difference between 64-bit and 32-bit. But from this forum I came to understand that the 64-bit version of Silverlight (which apparently is standard as it was the only option I was given upon downloading) is only compatible with Internet Explorer. I found a 32-bit version of silverlight here which I installed and FINALLY PRAISE JESUS Netflix was back up and running.

Such a super frustrating problem. I hope this helps somebody like me who is JUST TRYING TO WATCH ONLINE TV INSTEAD OF DOING HOMEWORK. Because if Netflix isn't working, let's be honest, it throws a real wrench in one's life.

Thanks for the tips, just disabling the Silverlight plug in in Firefox 21.0 did the trick for me. Prior to doing so it was always crashing!

If you use SKYGo to watch TV/films, you need Silverlight so not an option to remove it, for me

I just read that Mozilla is no longer going to support Silverlight. So this means I cant watch Netflix anymore on my laptop. Now my computer shows that Silverlight is installed but when I go to watch Netflix it keeps saying I have to install Silverlight so in any attempt it keeps saying error and when I try to uninstall Silverlight he says link unavailabe so I can neither uninstall it or update it or anything. Cant watch Netflix and I dont have cable. BOOOO :(
