Windows 2008R2 Terminal Server, Firefox 17.01 keeps crashing after startup for every user

We have 2 RDP servers with Windows Server 2008R2, we recently upgraded firefox from version 9 to version 17.01 because of flash plugin crashes. After the upgrade firefox crashes very regular for every user.

After opening a site, we see it for a split second and then The following error we get: "Firefox has stopped working"

This is the case for most sites, some sites however do work, like www.google.nl Sites that don't work for example: www.youtube.com www.nu.nl www.unox.nl

I thought it would be flash again. What have we tried: - uninstall Firefox and reinstall it again. - uninstall Flash player and install it again. - Disabled all add-ons - tried save mode - tried this one: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/922902?esab=a&as=aaq - tried this one: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#os=win7&browser=fx17 - Reset Firefox to factory default - Installed older version 16.02 (after uninstalling 17.01)

I have run a bit out of options. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Fortunately a colleague of me figured it out!

It turns out the cause of the firefox crashes was from a security layer installed with the CSE Secure Layer that an app called money manager uses The dll which the crash was referring to is used by that program. Finding that out was hell, as google is filled with the stupid "check your PC for malware" crap on a dll search now.

After removing the application, FF works fine again without crashing. So it seems a compatibility issue with Firefox and Money Manager

Thanks for the help and hopefully somebody in the future will have something about the solution we found.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID into the reply window on the forums.

I already tried that (already read it in a different post askin for it), but when i do that it states: "Submitted Crash Reports

No crash reports have been submitted."

at the system details i added this information: More Information

For the second guide, i found 3 id's, these are: - 1357155494 - 1357155376 - 1357123769

But al 3 are named "installtime" so i do not know if it will be helpful.

I am sorry but i cannot find a crash id with starts with bp- Also the crash reporter does not seems to work because it never start when firefox crashes. I have added a printscreen of the error i get.

(this is by the way the older version, but with 17.01 i get the same error)

I did, same error again unfortunately.

However i have made some progress with the issue, i have installed ad-block on it and some sites work again, but youtube.com for example still crashes. Somehow flash still seems to be an issue. But what more can i do then reinstall it again?

Disable/Remove your Adblock extension.

Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Don't select anything right now, just use "'Start in Safe Mode" To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again. If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
