My gmail used to automatically open when I started Firefox, now I have to sign in every time. Also other wb sites where I try to save a user name do not remember the user name either.
I have gone into options and set my home page to the open gmail site but it still doesn't open when I start firefox

Did you check the cookies exceptions?
You can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page via the location bar.
If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.

If your Firefox is set up to clear cookies on exit it will forget your login information therefor you will have to login again. But if you make you privacy settings look like this in the picture it will work again.
armygrunt,
I tried that and it still doesn't work. The gmail page opens but it doesn't automatically sign me in like it does on my other computers. This has done this ever since I upgraded to latest version of Firefox

Thank you! After many frustrating hours trying to get this to work the advice from both armygrunt and cor-el TOGETHER have solved my problem! THanks again! Divendoc
You're welcome.
Can you tell which changes that you had to make?
I did the exception on clearing cookies, I still have it clear my browsing history but not everything as before also changed the third party cookie setting
Third-party cookies aren't that important to keep, so if you enabled them for now then you can try if it works if you keep that setting disabled. There aren't that many websites that use cookies in such a way that it only works with third-party cookies enabled.
Best is usually to let all cookies expire when you close Firefox and make an allow exception for cookies that you want to keep. That are cookies to remember you (Gmail: google.com) and other settings that you want to move over to next browsing sessions. If you remove cookies via Clear Recent History then you remove all cookies that are within the specified time range. If you remove Site Preferences then you remove all exceptions and that includes cookie exceptions.
