I already have a synch account but I just want to use whats on this computer and get it synched. It woun't let me just synch it! I'm not worried about another device right now.
I already have a synch account but I don't care about any other device right now I just want to backup my settings on this computers browser right now. Want to replace anything with what I have here but it just keeps asking me to put in something from other device. I want to re add other devices later. I don't even think I have it on my iPhone right now. It's frustrating!

Reset your FireFox sync so you can replace previous sync data with data from current machine.

I don't think that there is a function if Firefox for backing-up settings but you could note them all down if you're really serious about wanting to back it up.
Also, you could try using an add-on called BackupFox , which backs-up your bookmarks and/or history as they change.

Not intuitive at all and even when following the instructions there were parts where it looked like it wasn't going to work.
Definitely an area that needs work!
No there IS a Synch function but it's not intuitive at all because of the other devices and synch key. They need to just have an option easily seen the says Reset Synch Key.
