I wish to uninstall firefox 6 update and go back to my original version so that my Norton toolbar will work. How do I do this?

I need the Norton toolbar, which was available until a few minutes ago when the latest update came in for firefox. Anyway, I would like the toolbar enabled or the means to undo the update. Help

Until Norton updates the add-on to be compatible with Firefox 6, you can use the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to try re-enabling it yourself.

For more details, see this page: Re-enable add-ons that were disabled when updating Firefox

Well Hell, this makes the third time I have tried to leave a thank you for SafeBrowser. Your tip worked like a charm. I was at the point of making IE my default browser. Again, thanks. vincec44

Yes, BUT, what is the answer to the original question? I.E. How does one revert to the previous version of firefox before the FireFox Six update ran (without my permission BTW).

Sorry, Firefox 5.0 isn't supported now.

The policy of totally ending support of the previous version seems incredibly unfriendly to users -- to the extent that this policy is likely to drive many long time users (like me) to other browsers. Although I can understand that EVENTUALLY support for very older versions cannot be justified; however, when a new version causes multiple and severe disruption incidents of web browsing, there really should be some way to revert back a version or two or three. As soon as I updated to version 6 a few days ago, I suddenly began experiencing "hangs" (freezes) on several web sites. The FireFox policy seems to be that everything else in the world needs to be "upgraded" to be compatible with FireFox's newest version. Well, sorry ... I dislike being forced to expend countless hours trying to "upgrade" not only add-ons but other software and perhaps hardware too ... because suddenly so much is incompatible to the newest FireFox! I had a long list of incompatible add-ons that will not work with the newest FireFox and not a single one had an update that would resolve the situation. Yet FireFox's published comments seem to deny that the problem is in their newest version -- FireFox is okay, everything else has a problem. Well, the simple solution to that is to junk FireFox and use a different browser!

i agree absolutely. this latest update has caused me much angst and time wasted. i have tried in vain the solutions proposed in this forum and am about to ditch firefox. a real pity!

Well since I was "forced" a few days ago to update to the latest version of firefox I have had nothing but problems, constant crashing and now it wont even open. There doesn't seem to be any solutions to fix this, its clogging up massive amounts of cpu and I have a brand new laptop with Windows 7. I guess its bye bye FireFox and hello Chrome which is a fairly decent browser but I have been using FireFox since it came out and I love it but not when all it does is freeze, crash and cause other problems. Half the crash reports aren't even going through so unless they come up with a solution or let us revert to the previous version adios FireFox and to Chrome I go, its my backup browser anyway just need to get the add-ons that I had on FF.

Why not? Why not make the version we like and prefer safe and supported? Why force us to either use a version we hate or leave and seek other browsers after years and years of using and preferring Firefox?

Fortunately I had a version 5 update on my hard drive. I started having problems with version 6 (Facebook was all catty-wampus and AVG checking was disabled), but Firefox wouldn't even load 7 except in safe mode. I did all the add-on checking and disabling, but to no avail.

This morning Firefox stomped all over my version 5 and "upgraded" me to 7 again, which immediately crashed. I shut off auto-upgrade and went back to 5. Everything works fine now.

I may soon be looking for a new browser.
