All I get's a blank page.

3.6.10 Windows 7 I have uninstalled, then reinstalled my printer.

Many sites, print just fine, but those with "peripheral" files like PDF will not print.

Examples: Ehow - will NOT print out right. Example - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages will not print.

btw - NONE of the solutions on that mozillazine page worked.  :(

Would this have to do w/FIREFOX? or my PRINTER? I don't think it's the printer, b/c printer prints anything from IE>

A few months back, Firefox would print anything. Lately, it doesn't. Not sure the change, but I figure it must be a Firefox setting. I'd be forever in your debt for a clue......

print.print_printer will reappear after you use a printer in Firefox, when you have reset that preference.

There should have been 25 to 30 preferences for each installed printer that has been used by Firefox, you probably cleared all the prefs for all printers, or you had the same printer showing up multiple times (as I mentioned). No, you can't highlight multiple preferences and reset them in batches, it has to be done one at a time.

There is a quicker way to do that reset, by deleting the appropriate preferences from the prefs.js file. But that method is even more "technical" than what is posted in that support article over at MozillaZine.

Did you try the Reset mentioned on that MozillaZine support page?
Make sure you get the preferences for all groups of prefs for the printer by that name, if you have any that show as (2) or (3) for a printer name.

As far as PDF files, Firefox doesn't directly display that file type, it would use a Plugin. That Plugin would also handle the printing of those files when displayed in a Firefox window or tab. Same holds true if you "Print to PDF" instead of using your hardware printer.

More system details.... shows that you have a number of outdated Plusings that could be a security risk. See this page for details and update those Plugins. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/

Thanks for trying to help.

I updated all plugins.

I reset --- found just one print print printer & reset it. Don't know if this means ANYTHING, but when I went back to do it again (since it didn't change anything) I noticed that instead of just one print print printer --- that that was no longer there. Instead there were a number of entries for my printer. Many lines referencing it. Do you know what I'm talking abt? Does that sound normal?

Is there something else I need to plug in?

Could this be Java related? Think Java is all updated, but who knows?

IE will print stuff that FF doesn't. WHY? Any other suggestions welcome! thank you.

Your printing problem is not Java related.

That Reset section says this:
(Some users may need to reset all the print.printer preferences for a particular printer, if resetting this one master preference doesn't solve the problem.)

Reset every pref for that particular print, when you filter with print.printer

Your printer references will reappear after your use your printer for first time after doing the reset.

<SOLVED!!!>

THANK YOU!!!

I did not fully understand this step of the Reset, as I expect many don't understand:

+++Reset every pref for that particular print, when you filter with print.printer Your printer references will reappear after your use your printer for first time after doing the reset.+++

I think that was what I was describing to you in the last post --- and what I bet a lot of folks don't understand..... +++ Don't know if this means ANYTHING, but when I went back to do it again (since it didn't change anything) I noticed that instead of just one print print printer --- that that was no longer there. Instead there were a number of entries for my printer. Many lines referencing it. +++

I had to reset like 75 - individually. (Ctrl did not seem to hilight them all- to make that faster).

THANK YOU, AGAIN.

What a pain this has been for months!!!!!!!  :D

pinstripepress,

Please use Ask a Question to start your own thread. When you are asked for Troubleshooting Information during the creation of that new thread, use the Help > Troubleshooting Information item, then copy that info using the Copy all to clipboard button and then paste into that Troubleshooting Information page.

That will give us the printer settings that are in Firefox.

Thank you for the link to mozillazine!

Somehow my print.print_printer was set to a non-existent printer. This was causing Firefox to crash whenever I tried to print.

Opening the config file (type 'about:config' in the web address box) and resetting the parameter 'print.print_printer' with right click then selecting reset from the menu did the trick. Note: the reset leaves the printer selection empty.

Thanks again!

I find the help for specific questions to be absolutely worthless. I have programs that won't show a print on right click and all I can does nothing to tell me how to get this to work. I.E. works much better if I need to print. And not being a computer nut, telling me to go to preferences, of which I could not find on tools, help, edit or file.

boothill,

Posting in and reading a forum about a different printing problem than you actually have is bound to be confusing.

Have you tired using the standard Windows keyboard shortcut for Print - {Ctrl + P}?
Firefox doesn't have a right-click menu item for Print, but it can be added via an extension. A few are available, depending upon which version of Firefox you are using.

I disabled HP Smart Web Printing and that fixed the print functions.

I have Firefox ver. 6.0.2 and I also found I could not print a PDF file from the browser. After much hair pulling and strange language I decided to "discover a fix"

1 - The problem is with Firefox!!!
2 - The Fix Is as follows!
3 - Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader Installed!
4 - In Firefox click on Tools and select Options then Applications and select
under 'Content type' "Adobe Acrobat Document" and
under 'Action' scroll down to "Use Adobe Reader (default)"
5 - Now click OK and any PDF documents will now open in the Reader and
printing the PDF will work !!!!!!!!!!!!
