Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

• Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

• Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
• Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Even with all add-ons and extensions turned off, and even in full safe mode, this meebo ad interference still occurs. The problem is that FireFox developers have apparently coded the location bar function to specifically allow this ad company to hijack it! This the first time that FireFox has made ads intrinsic to the browser, and it is making me -very- seriously consider switching browsers unless someone can show a way to turn this ad function off.

The whole reason we use FireFox instead of Explorer is to avoid such in your face commercial nonsense!

DITTO, DITTO... now, almost a year later, there's No (Simple) Way to remove this ?? (And on a more important note, HOW does one set up "restricted Sites" in Firefox; i.e., set up sites you do NOT want any access to? I couldn't find any hint of this in the Tools, Addons, etc. area.) thanks.

OK, I just accidently ran across "how" to register 'restricted sites' in Firefox that you do not want access to; however, that feature requires its own Add-on! ["Policy Manager"].

Meebo has a new toolbar with a new blue and orange icon on the right. Using Internet Explorer, clicking on this icon brings up a menu where you can Hide Meebo. Using Firefox, clicking on this icon does NOTHING. Firefox needs to correct this NOW. The new Meebo bar is even more annoying than the old one!

This still happening as of 5/1/2012. Opera doesn't have this issue.

5/2/12 - Last week I updated to Firefox 12.0, and the problem with not being able to hide the meebo bar is resolved. I now get that option on the right side of the bar. It's not gone forever, but at least I don't have to look at it.

Check your Firefox version under Help -->About Firefox.

It's only hidden. It's not gone. The fact that it doesn't show up in "uninstall programs," and cannot be found in search proves it is malware. That Firefox allows it - most likely for dough - diminishes the Mozilla "open source movement." Opera, and I am no mole.

The Meebo bar is not at all related to Firefox or Mozilla. Websites across the Internet can choose to install Meebo on their website (https://www.meebo.com/websites) -- it is not included with Firefox and is not sponsored by Mozilla.

Recently, Meebo added a function to allow hiding the toolbar. (More information: http://gizmodo.com/5905732/the-meebo-bar-is-now-slightly-less-terrible) I recommend using this until they allow you to completely block it, or even contact the websites personally and let them know you do not like the Meebo bar.

Again, website developers put this on their website, Mozilla developers have no control over what website developers do, and these can show up in all browsers.

Websites? Why is it that I've had to re-install Firefox twice in the last couple weeks due to other bugs and conflicts and each time Meebo shows up with the new installation. D/L direct from Mozilla. That indicates a relationship.

Which websites do you see the Meebo bar on? I have seen it on http://etonline.com but I know it is on other websites as well.

Two signs Mozilla is not related to this:

1. The Meebo bar is not on every website, and therefore not a part of the browser
2. The Meebo bar is not present on any Mozilla website

I do, however, know of a way to block the Meebo bar.

1. Download AdBlock Plus
2. Restart the browser and setup the extension.
3. Go to a website that has the Meebo bar.
4. Open AdBlock Plus (either on the addon bar or under Tools) and click on Open Blockable Items
5. Search for meebo
6. Click on an address and then hit Enter
7. On the popup, select meebo.com^ (make sure it has the ^ at the end) and click Add Filter
8. Refresh the page and enjoy a Meebo-free web experience

* Note: If Meebo is on every website, including this one, you may have malware. Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

You don't get it. Meebo resides within the browser and rides along to EVERY website. I call it a "malbar" because it will not respond to normal controls. It is loaded when Firefox is installed. "Ghostify" seems to work to get rid of it and it can be hidden, but some one is making some money with this. It does not respond to malware and virus cleaners, which I use regularly, because it hides itself in the browser architecture as a toolbar. Incredible you would claim millions of websites have "installed" Meebo.

Have you checked to see if it is listed as an extension?
