Since the most recent Firefox update (3.6.6), I cannot access my personal blog because when I click to it, I get a redirect to b.scorecardresearch.com which proceeds to freeze. I also suspect that it is the culprit for causing op up windows in my editing software to hang. I have tried blocking the cookie. I have tried opting out at the particular website. I have run ad-aware and spybot as well as my Norton anti-virus software. The website is fine in IE and Google Chrome. I have found out today that others are also having the same difficulty accessing my blog. How do I remove this pesky critter?

The sites which are having the problem include code from Technorati, which itself includes code from extreme-dm.com, which includes a reference to a script on the site b.scorecardresearch.com. For some reason, that script is not loading correctly, and it is not marked as inessential to the page, and so the page load is blocked.

This is an example of why including scripts from a 3rd party site in your website is a dangerous thing to do. Do you trust everyone that the owner of that script trusts?

So this is (probably) not a problem with Firefox.

One of your add-ons might be the culprit too. Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode with all add-ons disabled. If that solves the problem, see Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and possibly Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

Also your issue may be caused by Malware. You can run and update the following free anti virus software:

1. Malwarebytes (Free version) - http://www.malwarebytes.org

2. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org

3.Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com

In addition, there are a number of forums you can use to help get rid of your infection. These include:

Had the same problem earlier with a client's site. Do you have technorati called anywhere within your theme? Removing that from our site fixed the issue.

From some reading I did, it's apparently the latest update of FireFox causing the issue. (Which explains why it's okay in IE and Chrome) Some "tracking scripts" are running wrong and causing the redirect.

So, if you don't have technorati going, trying disabling any of your java (i.e. twitter follow widgets)

Please let me know if this helped (because I'm curious). Good luck!

Same error in private browsing mode and all add ons deaktivated or uninstalled!

I can see my blog just fine, but several of my readers are reporting that when they try to bring up my blog the browser hangs with a white screen. They are seeing b.scorecardresearch.com down in the bottom.

The weird thing to me is I can’t find anything in my template or any of the posts that seems to be using using b.scorecardresearch.com.

I haven’t changed my template in months. This afternoon I started pulling stuff from the template and it still hangs.

Any suggestions on how to find the HTML which prompts the connection to b.scorecardresearch.com?

Henry, have you done the latest FF update? That could be why they're seeing the problem and you're not. Or perhaps you're not using FireFox to look at the site?

As I said before, check widgets & java & tracking & anything else that's 3rd party. Technorati was our problem & it doesn't say "b.scorecardresearch.com" anywhere in the code that's on the website.

Another thing to do is pay attention (or ask your viewers who are having the problems) to what the status bar says just before redirect. It may give a good indication as to what's trying to load and causing your problem. In our case, as soon as technorati flashed in the status bar, that's when the site redirected.

Humm, I tried to respond last night, but my answer didn't appear.

I have five readers who have indicated that they are not able to read my blog because of this problem with "b.scorecardresearch.com" issue. I don't know if they all have the latest FF update.

I don't have the latest update, so that may be the issue. This seems like a bug to me, so for now I don't plan to upgrade.

My blog is: whyhomeschool.blogspot.com

I don't have a lot of stuff on my template, but I have pulled most of it, and still these five readers are having trouble. I don't have anything connecting directly to Technorati.

I haven't changed my template for months and just started having this problem yesterday, so I think something else changed.

I asked these five some questions and one has already responded:

  • What Operating System are you running?*
    Windows XP
  • What Browser are you using?*
    Firefox
  • Does the problem happen consistently?*
Yes, with variations in the length of time the blog page "blinks on" before switching to the research load. Sometimes I don't even see the blog page; other times it is just a blink, and still other times it may appear for as long as a half-second.
  • Are you able to load our blog in another browser or PC?*
Yes. I can load it in Internet Explorer, and DH loaded it in Safari on his I-Touch.
  • Have you seen this problem with any other blogs?*
No. I spent quite a while just now jumping from blog to blog without repeating this problem. I loaded blogs from blogspot and other services without difficulty.
  • Anything else that you've noticed that might be helpful?*
I can *read *the blog from Bloglines without difficulty, but trying to *load *the blog from Bloglines results in the same problem.

I'll check to see if she got the latest FF update.

Anything else I should ask about?

This does appear to be a FireFox 3.6.6 issue.

One of my readers played with loading my blog with two versions of FireFox and reports:

  • It's the Firefox version!* Kevin loaded it using Firefox/3.5.10 and it worked just fine. Then he upgraded to Firefox 3.6.6 and got the same problem I'm having (flash, then try loading the scorecardsearch). He's reverting his computer back to Firefox 3.5.10, and he'll fix mine tonight when he gets home from work. I hope this is the end of the problem!

Any chance FireFox can fix this quickly? Or suggest a chance in my blog template to avoid this problem?

Thanks.

It was the Technorati script that was the problem. I found the script in my sidebar just sitting there innocently, not performing any function for my blog. I removed if and all is well in blogland again.

Did I get it by visiting technorati? How can I avoid the same problem? And why isn't this illegal?

Thanks to all for your help.

Found the fix to block scorecardresearch I am a level 2 IT support tech with 16 years of experience so I was up for the challenge. Putting the site addresses in the firefox block list did not work but the abine tool did work. Freedom !!! http://abine.com has a free tool to block this pest for Firefox. They have not released the IE version as of yet but will soon. I tried it for my Firefox and it did the job.
