I know that adobe has stopped support for flash. But what is the reason to also prohibit playing locally stored content? I see no security risk with old content e.g. from tutorials or learning courses. Disabling flash everywhere is making all this legacy content useless. And often there is not even a replacement available. Is there a solution to the problem?

Did you uninstall Flash?

I think that Adobe has builtin at least in the latest versions some kill switch that disables the Flash plugin.

I did not uninstall flash and I even created C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg where I can set options to disable flash "automagic" features (see below) Alas I read that chromium based browsers by themselves prohibit playing flash content and firefox will do so too with the next update. That means that, even if I am aware of the security risks and I restrict flash to certain sites, I am not in control anymore. It seems that the browser makers destroy the legacy investment into learning products for no good.

I do know that. Adobe advises to use mms.cfg to configure flash as described to be able to use it after January 12. This will stop working though, if browser makers decide to block flash unconditionally.
