'Other Bookmarks' appears in Bookmark Toolbar, I don't want it!

After using CCleaner, on opening FireFox I discovered an unwanted, 'other bookmarks' tab sitting on my toolbar. It won't move (click & drag), and I want rid of it. I like having the double right arrow at the edge of the toolbar like it use to be. When I did a full browser 'refresh', it disappeared!

However, on using CCleaner again, the darn thing reappeared.

How to I tell FireFox that I would like to be in charge of how it displayed, rather than some errant code that someone else thinks i want?

Firefox 84+ adds this "Other Bookmarks" button when there are bookmarks in the "Other Bookmarks" folder as part of new bookmark features that are current under development. You might be participating in a shield study if you see this happening in Firefox 84, you can check this via the about:studies page.

You can set browser.toolbars.bookmarks.2h2020 = false on the about:config page to disable these new features.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

Note that in Firefox 85+ you can right-click this "Other Bookmarks" icon on the Bookmarks Toolbar to toggle its appearance (Show Other Bookmarks).

What a great solution - thank you! Am curious if this is now a permanent fix, or will I need to carry this procedure out every time I clean out cache/cookies? (I have tried to 'update' FireFox using, 'help', then 'about', but it keeps telling me I am up to date with v84.0.2)

This has nothing to do with clearing cache or cookies, but this is part of developing new features and in this case this is about adding an Other Bookmarks button to the Bookmarks Toolbar in case there are bookmarks stored in this folder. Firefox 84 is the first version with this feature and there is no easy way to hide this button. Firefox 85, that will be released next week, allows to toggle this Other Bookmarks button via the right-click context menu. In Firefox 85 there will also be additional choices for showing the Bookmarks Toolbar (always, never, only on Firefox Home).

What a comprehensive answer - thank you. I only mentioned the cookie/cache clearance as that is why I use CCleaner, and after use, the 'other bookmark' icon reappeared on my toolbar. I look forward to v85's general release where I can control it via a simple right click...
