Updates hide all website buttons and switches

Please Quit The Constant Update Windows until the newer Firefox versions actually work for W7!!!! Remember , W7 computers are not able to get the updates for make whatever is making all site buttons and switches disapprear. To new Firefox is also like Malware, very time consuming to uninstall, and I only can go to the latest full version I had saved. I have been a loyal user and contributer since the beginning, so Please Make Forefox Polite Again!

Remember , W7 computers are not able to get the updates for make whatever is making all site buttons and switches disappear. The new Firefox is also like Malware, obnoxious with too many features that complicate and slow down browsing. And like malware, it is very time consuming to uninstall, and I only can go to the latest full version I had saved. I have been a loyal user and feedback contributer since the beginning, so Please Make Firefox Polite Again!

PS: I also hate the that in the new versions, I can no longer see my passwords to set up, say, apps on a new phone.... And have to go back to paper!

I have not heard about this problem from other users. We'll ask you to try a few things before we would consider it impossible for current releases to run on your system.

Your Firefox indicates it is version 68. Were you on the Extended Support Release track and you installed 78.3.1? Or is the version being fudged by the "resistFingerprinting" setting and you actually have version in the range of 69-77?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In its Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.)

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • (menu bar) Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

I did install 78 And had to go back to the version I had save on a remote hard disk, v68. I do not dare to install the new version again for the 3rd time at this point, because it is worse each time, because this time I had no rights at all to delete the FF data and had to be very roundabout picking through my Applications Data and caches, risking deleting something I need, to be able to use sites like FEMA, PGE, Medicare, Comcast again. And switch off Youtube autoplay ... Don't tell me to buy a new computer, I am a senior on a fixed income, with cabin damage from the wildfires. I have asked some of friends, and all hate the new approach with a passion! I am not the only one who has problems, although I am the one with the oldest W7 computer.

So please tell me, is the button/switches issue related to to move away from Adobe Flashplayer ? And will there be a utility eventually for older systems to use whatever replaces it?

Hi wdhc, support forum volunteers are familiar with numerous upgrade/downgrade issues and we are here to help.

I understand you have faced challenges trying to handle the problems on your own. All versions of Firefox naturally do want to update for security reasons, and that Firefox doesn't like using a profile that has been used by a later version. This makes it difficult to do upgrade/downgrade cycles without losing access to old settings. We know. Our goal is to get the most secure possible version working for you.

I hope you will consider us as a resource and not people who would tell you that you have to buy a new computer.

We don't have enough information on the button/switches issue in your Firefox to know what causes it. However, not very many sites use Flash, so if you see this on many sites or in Firefox's interface, I don't think Flash is involved.

Firefox 78-81 support Flash, and support is anticipated to continue through the end of 2020 in all browsers that currently support it.

Sites need to update their content so it doesn't depend on Flash as this is an industry-wide shift. I'm sure as the end nears, there will be more advice for content has hasn't converted or can't be converted.
