Firefox updating two profiles with places files

I run Firefox 52.9.0 32bit ESR as main browser - for reasons to do with our server I also run under a separate profile Firefox 68.12.0 ESR 32 bit for testing

When using 52.9.0 whenever I change a bookmark, it ALSO updates the file in the V68 profile folder! I have no idea why as both profiles should be separate. The time stamps are the same.

I need to keep the V68 profile completely isolated from the V52 so need to try and stop this unusual updating!

Both profiles are NOT local and located in F:drive under different folders. Both versions are started as:- "I:\Firefox New\firefox.exe" -P "Firefox New" and "I:\Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "Firefox Old" and the profiles.ini file points correctly

Any suggestions please - and no I can not update them as needed for specific purposes!

Make sure sync is not active.

Shut down sync from here.

Type about:accounts<enter> in the address bar.

Hi nope, NO sync on any items or accounts - causes too much trouble mixing stuff up.

On closedown both versions also set to clear all caches/history etc etc and the later version is not usually used but when I daily sync all my data files with and offsite NAS I can see JUST these two files (places.sqlite and signons.sqlite) have the same date and time stamp as the older firefox versions. NOTHING else has its date/time changed.

Please note this appears to ONLY update these two files when the older version is closed - not during use.

I can see no reason why one firefox would update another version or how it knows about ir even with a selected profile. e.g. older version starts from shortcut I:\Firefoxold and target is "firefoxold\firefox.exe -p -no-remote and profiles.ini has:-

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] Name=FirefoxOld IsRelative=0 Path=N:\Users\FirefoxOld Default=1

[Profile1] Name=FirefoxNew IsRelative=0 Path=N:\Users\FirefoxNew

so nothing odd there.

Doesn't happen with firefox portable on a usb stick though - must be a registry conflict or similar so will look when time, but any more ideas helpful!

cheers John

If you are using the same username on each browser, this may be the problem.

Thanks, but no I do not have any user names with firefox - stand alone programs with no sync to each other or firefox servers. John
