Firefox crashes on start-up: bp-acb5e759-cf3c-4d14-a1dc-d054b0191219

Inserita

Including in safe mode. Have tried uninstalling with Revo Uninstaller, deleting Mozilla folders in \AppData\Local, \AppData\LocalLow, and \AppData\Roaming, then re-installing; this should be a clean install.

Can anyone interpret the error code? Thanks in advance.

Thanks FredMcD, but I already did that twice. I've now worked round the problem by factory resetting the PC (it's a Dell). I brought Windows up to date and now Firefox has installed and run with no problems. Merry Christmas!

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove any profile folders.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Hi FredMcD, thank you for responding. Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been occupied elsewhere.

This is a PC running Windows 10 v1909. It had various problems (including this problem with Firefox) that I tried to fix by performing an in-place upgrade of Windows. This was partly successful, but I'm left with this Firefox problem.

So I've tried uninstalling, removing everything related to Firefox that I can find in the program folders, ProgramData, the user profile folders and the registry, then re-installing using the installer from the link that you suggested, and it still crashes on start-up, including in safe mode. The latest crash report is bp-5887ab0-9fa3-4076-a71e-222d60191222.

I am wondering if there is still something wrong with the Windows 10 installation and if so, what it is and how I might fix it without doing a clean installation of Windows.

There needs to be a leading 'b' added to the crash ID. That is a crash report with the same signature.

  • bp-b5887ab0-9fa3-4076-a71e-222d60191222
  • Firefox 71.0 Crash Report [@ Microsoft::Resources::BaseFile::ValidateStructure ]

This is still a problem with MRM (Messaging records management; mrmcorer.dll), but I'm not familiar with this Windows component.

I've run sfc - no integrity violations found - and dism restorehealth - restarted PC, Firefox still crashes on start-up. Unless you guys have any other suggestions, I think that I will have to bite the bullet and rebuild.

Thank you FredMcD, although to me, resorting to a rebuild is rather an admission of defeat. Still, needs must - clearly there was some sort of Windows corruption, and so better to wipe the slate clean.
