I saw another post about this, and someone linked an article in the comments, but it didn't actually tell me what it was. When I go to settings it says that my browser is being managed by my enterprise, and when I go to enterprise policies it lists "ImportEnterpriseRoots" as true. Is this just a part of Firefox, or should I be concerned? And if it is a part of Firefox what does it actually mean?

This likely means that you have security that acts as a man-in-the-middle and injects its root certificate in Firefox to intercept a secure connection without getting certificate errors in Firefox.

In Firefox 63 and newer you can check the about:policies#active page to see whether policies are active.

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and possibly in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

Edit: it says that my browser is being managed by my organization, not enterprise. My bad. Also this computer doesn't belong to any sort of organization.

What does "Your browser is being managed by your organization" mean and what is ImportEnterpriseRoots?

I have chosen no "organization" for my computer and have no idea what this means.

Your replies have been canned and make no sense and don't answer the questions posed.

I am going to copy and paste Zavhytar's post, because this is exactly my problem/questions, and they have not been answered...so I'll try again:

"When I go to settings it says that my browser is being managed by my enterprise, and when I go to enterprise policies it lists "ImportEnterpriseRoots" as true. Is this just a part of Firefox, or should I be concerned? And if it is a part of Firefox what does it actually mean?"

Could/would someone please actually answer the questions?

Thank You.

My above reply does explain what is happening. You get this notification when other software uses policies to make changes to Firefox. This can be via the Windows Registry or via a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox program folder. Security software uses this to hook in the Firefox internet connection to be able to monitor your internet traffic and possibly warn you or even prevent you from visiting not trusted websites.

Thank You! I think I understood that. It sounds like something both dangerous and potentially helpful. Should it be deleted?

You can check the registry entries and policies as described in the "Chosen Solution" post and see if there are any belonging to any security software which is installed. (Maybe you installed it, maybe it came already installed on your computer.)

about:policies#active this you type into the firefox address bar

to check the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\

type regedit.exe into the Run or Search boxes in the Windows Start Menu, then navigate the registry "folder tree" to that key

Thank You, crankygoat!

For me it showed up when I enable certain addons. Mine is because of Privacy Possum I believe. Either that or uBlock Origin. I'm guessing Privacy Badger would do it to. Do you have some sort of ad block that reroutes the urls of ads? The addons are acting as a man in the middle to route your traffic straight to you and the host, but it also reroutes the ad traffic so it either goes to a blank image or just blocks the ad url. Its nothing to worry about as long as when you turn off your adblock or other types of addons the issue should resolve itself. Hoope that helps.
