I was filling out a Vermont PDF tax form online and made the tragic error of choosing firefox over their default for this. Immediately hundreds of tabs raced across the top of the screen and I had to cancel and cancel and cancel until they all were done. I closed all history restarted my computer and tried again and it happened again with any Vermont tax form that I tried. This is what was appearing in the usual https area while this was going on. file:///C:/users/Lynn/Appdata/local/temp/S-3epdf
Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated I have no tech savvy at all!

Did you check the action set in "Options/Preferences -> General -> Applications" for Portable Document Format (PDF) and make sure it is "Preview in Firefox"?
You can check the handlers.json file in the profile folder for possible PDF related entries.
You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Tabs increasing isn't something that firefox would created that would come from the site itself loading something other then from firefox itself. I've only seen this on site that is infected or malware acting behavior software.
You get tabs opening endlessly if you select Firefox as the application to handle a file when you get an "Open with" dialog. You should never select Firefox to handle a file if you get an open with dialog because Firefox would have opened the file in a tab. You will have to remove this action.
Thank you for your prompt reply - and sorry this might be a duplicate return reply. My problem is strictly related to any PDF download, no other problems, currently Adobe is set as the default PDF. This is the information that seems to relate but still not clear how to remove whatever action caused this issue?
Note: A problematic Portable Document Format (PDF) content type should be set to Preview in Firefox to view PDF files in Firefox, even when Firefox is the default program to open PDF files on Windows.
