System: Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit [happened before on Win7x64 Pro as well]

Thunderbird: 60.9.0 (32-bit) [the issue has been occurring for many months]

Lightning: 6.2.9

Calendar is fully local (no Google Calendar or the like)

Installed extensions: Expression Search / Google Mail UI; FiltaQuilla; Identity Chooser; ImportExportTools; Lightning; Mailbox Alert; Search Results Sort By Date Not Relevance; ThreadVis; Unread Badge;

Possibly the same issue: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1257365

Every now and then, after a Thunderbird restart [e.g., due to a Windows restart], the calendar is missing. The extension is still listed in the corresponding tab and marked as enabled but I cannot open the calendar tab. Neither via the menu nor via the shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+C.

My workaround in this case is to disable the extension, restart Thunderbird, re-enable the extension and, once again, restart Thunderbird. So far, this has always worked. Since the issue occurs quite regularly, I would like to fix it.

Originally, I used Thunderbird Portable but have now moved my profile to a non-portable installation. This did not fix the issue. I have also disabled all extensions, to no avail.

Unfortunately, I do not notice anything that the issue correlates with. It feels random. I just now restarted Thunderbird a few times and everything was OK. So I cannot easily test any possible fixes; it may take a week to occur. Or a minute.

Can you propose something for me to try to fix this issue? I would like not to switch to the new Thunderbird [68.1.0] as almost all of my extensions are not compatible with it. I'm not sure but I think that the issue has survived the last upgrade as well. Either this is a "real" bug or my profile is borked.

[Offtopic] Is there no single line break in this forum? Everything gets stuffed into one line. Only a double line break works, but this also creates a double line break on screen.

I would see if a complete reinstall works. Exit Thunderbird.

Uninstall thunderbird.

At the link below, select your prefered language eg: en-GB = English British Then click on ' Thunderbird Setup 60.9.0.exe' to download and install.

I'm not sure, I understand. I used TB Portable before. I had never installed TB. Now, in order to fix my issue, I installed TB (even on a new operating system); i.e., this installation is (or was at the time of installation) as clean as it gets. The only constant is the profile.

Is your profile in the default location?

Default location in Windows OS is :

  • C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\

In other words, did you: install Thunderbird on PC, run it once to create a default profile, but not create mail accounts. Exit thunderbird.

Did you then: Copy the 'Thunderbird' folder which hold your original TB Portable profile Paste into Appdata / 'Roaming' folder to overwrite the default Thunderbird folder that had been created? OR : Copy the 'profile name' folder into the /Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles folder and then edit the 'profiles.ini' file? OR: Use Profile Manager to create an profile and point it to wherever you have stored your profile?

Where is your profile located?

No. My profile is stored on an encrypted drive. I launch Thunderbird with the profile parameter. It is the same profile I used for the portable Thunderbird installation.

Yes. However, I am not certain anymore how I proceeded. In the default profile location, there is still the profiles.ini, referencing a profile that doesn't exist. I probably deleted everything in the Profiles folder in the same location (it is empty).

This is where I'm uncertain. I may have originally simply moved my "portable" profile to the default location and, only later, to the other drive.

In case it is relevant: It is now located at *:\Profile. Here * can be any drive letter.
