Thunderbrid repeatably downloading / refreshing messages in IMAP folders (server: outlook.office365.com). It happened from time to time during past years but since couple of versions it's almost 2-3 times a week. Because I prefer to have messages downloaded in Thunderbird It's very annoying when thousands od messages in various subfolders has to be redownloaded. I have large HDD and Win10 64-bit and retention policy is set not to delete messages. My current installed build is 69 beta4

Could you right click on imap Inbox folder and select 'compact'. Allow compacting to complete. Then one by one do the same for each folder.

You may have it set to do an auto compact or even expunge Inbox on exit, but it would be useful to know that each folder is done separately to ensure compacting finalises for each folder.

Message Storage type: Are you using 'Maildir' or 'File per folder (mbox)' ?

I regularly do compacting. This problem can even happen if I compacted folder the day before! That was never the issue first 13+ years of using Thunderbird, only last one-two years (since using IMAP) it started to happen, and recently so often that is unbearable to work efficiently. I haven't changed any settings in the meanwhile. I'm using mbox storage type. I have around 30 different folders. Around 15Gb would be whole database altogether (that's why I have sort rules on server not to have one single large database susceptible to corruption).

If a folder is corrupted, you may have to rebuild it by deleting the mbox and msf files and allowing TB to automatically create a new one and re-downloading from the IMAP server:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders#Real_fix

Check that you don't have an AV program scanning the TB profile folder, as that could cause repeated downloads if the AV can't complete its operations.

You're also using the beta version (currently at 70b1), which may have issues not seen with the release versions, 60 or 68.

I've done in the past deleting msf files, trying to fix it but it didn't help. I hope that databases doesn't corrupt files so often, or does it? When it re-downloads whole folders, the mbox file resets to 0 anyways.

My Antivirus only scans incoming emails, but I guess it should not scan whole database. This is helpful tip, I can experment with disableing incoming email scanning.

I can try this once again http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders#Real_fix (although I've experimented with it sometimes before).

And yes, TB upgraded to 70b1 yesterday..

Btw, interestingly, I feel I never experienced this with the other, very much less used, Gmail IMAP account.
