Firefox crashes with a breakpoint message

Inserita

After a new install on a new windows 10 computer I get the following error when I open Firefox A breakpoint has been reached (0x80000003) in the application at location 0x00007FF95BB874BB

Version 68.0.2

I suspect it has to do with my work environment. There is corporate management software, and I have to "run elevated" to do new installs or updates. Firefox is the only app that has had an issue with whatever they are doing. Chrome installs fine.

The IT team won't help since they say "we support Internet explorer"

In addition, I cannot update the version I have on my windows 7 and 10 machines that was installed before they added their monitoring software,

Again, this is a problem with compatibility with our corporate overlords environment that is messing up firefox. I'm hoping there are settings or logging options that will get to the cause.

I'm typing this on an old firefox (63.0.1) on a windows 7 machine.

Please don't tell me to reinstall, update video drivers, etc. Been through all that. We are talking a new installation on a new windows 10.

Thanks

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted/Unsubmitted Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Really need some help with this! It's probably some simple config setting that make the corporate monitoring software unhappy.

Thanks

It seems I need admin privilege to run firefox on the windows 10 machine. The admin logged in and ran it ok. Then, when I logged in the window opened, and did not breakpoint, but did not actually access the site (google.com). Then, I could not close the window, and when I tried to end task it said I needed admin privileges.

I wish I could get some help on this!!

Hi Bruce!

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu , click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thanks!

Turned out the problem was cased by my profile being read only

Somewhere down in C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Going back now, it is read only again, so I assume I'll need to change it every time.

Seeing a green block next to the read-only attribute merely means that Windows didn't check the content of the folder, only a real checkmark means that the folder is read-only. It is quite possible that there are no read-only files in the folder, so you need to check each file and easiest is to make the attribute column visible in List view mode.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that start with "bp-".

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page.

  • click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.

Alternatively you can open about:crashes via the location/address bar.
