Firefox won't auto log me in to anything, and constantly wants me to sync with another device, which I have
I've been forced to update Firefox in order to continue using spotify web player. This means I've had to create an account, but every time I restart the browser, it won't remember who I am, and then asks me to sync to another device (I've already synced to my phone). Once I've logged in my account also won't auto-log me in to my bookmarked and previously saved passwords (so what's the point of saving them in the first place?). I tried setting up a new profile, but that hasn't done anything either. I just get asked to sign up and sync each time.

Try to make new profile via `about:profiles` and set it to default. If it solved the problem, export your bookmarks from the old profile and import them to the new profile.

Or does everyone have to sign in every time they reopen the app?
you mean to firefox sync?
if you already tried on new profile and the problem still occurs, try to download adwcleaner tool (freeware, portable app) to scan for if there is any interfering malware that messing up with the browser.

Firefox uses the Password Manager to store the credentials of the Firefox Sync account (chrome://FirefoxAccounts). If you need to login each time you start Firefox then this means that this login data is lost, so make sure that the Firefox Password Manager is working properly and that you do not remove the passwords when you close Firefox.
You can also check the homepage setting in "Options/Preferences -> Home".
