Why do my Thunderbird themes keep disappearing?

I have been using Thunderbird since April of this year, when I bought a new Windows 10 laptop. In that short time, I have had my "theme" disappear twice. I chose a simple theme to add a little color to the tabs and menu bar, nothing fancy. A few weeks ago the color was gone and the theme was no longer listed in my add-ons. I browsed the themes again and found a different one which was very similar and started using it. Today, that one also disappeared and I have switched to a third one (or maybe it was the same one again; I don't remember the name of the ones I was using). Why do the themes keep disappearing?

Otherwise, I love Thunderbird; it's MUCH better than the mail built into Windows 10! I also love the calendar; on my old laptop I had been using the old Sunbird stand-alone calendar, so it was very easy to import my old entries.

Are these the "light" themes? if so it may well be that they are going through a transition period. (although they should be installed on your computer) the web site they are on has changed and there are changes to how they are constructed. I don't follow themes much, but it is an area that is in some flux as Thunderbird's developers try and compensate for changes make by Mozilla to the core Thunderbird shares with Firefox for the implementation of webextensions.

Be aware that there are two distinct types of theme;

Why we ended up with two completely different things basically with a name that is interchangeable is something best left to the Mozilla historians. It is confusing as the only things the same is in the name, one is theme and one is complete theme.

My guess is it is probably one of the dynamic themes that changes the image periodically and the web site it got it's new images from is no longer there. But that is really just a guess. I use complete themes as they solve usability issues, I have little time for the pretty that the persona type theme offers.

It is one of the "light" themes. That is the same page Thunderbird took me to when I went to search for themes. I had not seen the page with the "complete" themes before. However, it appears that many of them only work with older versions and not with the current version of Thunderbird. I am using one of the solid color themes so I can make the the menu and tabs stand out better and be easier to see. The ones with fancy decorations are too much for me. But the drab gray of Thunderbird and Firefox in Windows 10 were not enough, since I was used to the different colors from Windows 95 - Windows 7 (and always changed everything back to "classic" view to make the XP and 7 look as much like 95 as possible...LOL)

On second thought, I believe the first theme I lost was on Firefox browser and not Thunderbird, but it was the same problem. The color was back to the default and the additional theme was no longer showing installed in my add-ons. I had to search for a new theme to use. I hope this won't be a continuing problem; it will be annoying to have to hunt for themes every few months.

Thank you.
