Hi KaseyT1, is the problem that the Inbox updates by itself to show new mail and you want to page to remain static until you use a button to check for new mail? I wonder whether there is a setting for that. Do you recall seeing any controls for it in Chrome?

Yes that is what I want to do but there is no button for it. I only want to check for and load new email when I'm ready.

I understand that Chrome has the ability to do this so why can;t Firefox do it?

When you say "I understand" I think you might be saying you haven't experienced this yourself, but you heard about it somewhere. Is it possible to track down that information to see whether there is a particular setting for it?

I assume the way the page is able to learn of new messages (without having to reload the page) is by keeping a connection open in the background. There are a number of ways for a page to do that, but one possibility is the mechanism used for "notifications." So you could ban the site from showing notifications to see whether that makes any difference. Here's how:

While you are on the site, call up the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog using either of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions

Scroll down to "Send Notifications" and uncheck the "Use default" box, and then select the permission you prefer (in this case, Block).

Any difference?
