Hello nicuhu,

Would you please read this :

https://restoreprivacy.com/browser-fingerprinting/

By the way : it's not "amiunique.com" but "amiunique.org" .......

Hi nicolas, Firefox can't prevent sites from calculating a browser fingerprint any more than wearing a disguise can prevent someone from taking a video of you...

However, using the resistFingerprinting setting changes your browser's appearance to be a bit more generic. It might not be generic enough to avoid uniqueness, maybe because not a lot of people are using this setting. It's a new feature some people are using, and others have to stop using due to practical problems on sites where accurate browser identification is important (like installing extensions from the Mozilla add-ons site).

It should improve over time.

I'm not good speaking english.

I understand that Firefox Fingerprint blocker is not bloking the fingerprinting. That wil make a fake fingerprint and send these to these website that try to search me as my fingerprint?

I don't know about Firefox creating a fake fingerprint, but this extension does :

Yes, Firefox does create a fake fingerprint, it's enough to set privacy.resistFingerprinting to true and enter this page to test it.

In the article I gave you a link to (which covers just about everything there is to know about fingerprinting) it says :

"privacy.resistFingerprinting (change to true) – Changing this value to true will offer some basic protection, but it’s far from a complete solution. "

Note that it may render some sites and services unusable or less functional.

Okay thank you, i'm not interessted to install many addons. I' will try to use only official setting without Add ons.

Ok, i wil try it. I have only active the fingerprintblocking setting in my browser this create the variable to true of "pricavy.resistFingerpring"? Or must i do this one manuelly ? Whenn i make available in my setting the blocking fonction of Fingerprint is this change the varaible to true or not?

I am not suggesting that you do install that add-on - I am merely pointing out that this add-on actually does create a fake fingerprint.

I also wanted to point out that changing the value of that preference may render some sites and services unusable or less functional (even break some sites).

(you can always reset the value of that preference though)

Should you decide to change the value of that preference, here's how :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

privacy.resistFingerprinting

and set its value to true

Then close and restart Firefox.

OK. Whats the difference between the change from privacy.resistFingerpring and from Browser -> Setting -> Policy/Security -> Fingerprint -> Bloking Yes? Its not the same setting? Whats the difference between these two settings?

Those Privacy settings control other prefs:

  • privacy.trackingprotection.cryptomining.enabled
  • privacy.trackingprotection.fingerprinting.enabled

The first preference will be set to true on the "about:config" page, when in Options => Privacy & Security => Content Blocking, you have checked "Custom" and checked "Fingerprinting".

When you don't want to use that option under Content Blocking (but for instance "Standard" instead) but you want to make Firefox more resistant to browser fingerprinting, that's when you can set the value of "privacy.resistFingerprinting" to "true" on the "about:config" page.

I hope this makes a bit clearer ......

By the way : when I said "I don't know about Firefox creating a fake fingerprint" I meant that to me that is not what Firefox is doing - all it really does is make you more or less "blend in with the rest" (I mentioned that add-on to show what creating a fake fingerprint is).

I already mentioned that setting "privacy.resistFingerprinting" to "true" may render some sites and services unusable or less functional (even break some sites), but I would also like you to take a look at this thread :

Its clear. :-)

Can you explain which difference is between 1st and 2nd setting? 2nd is strong blocking fingerprint and 1st not very strong.

2nd solution I think fake many parameters of Fingerprint and 1st solution I think only 2-3 parameters expl. (clock from computer, Useragent, Deep Color from Computer)

I understand that all of this is a lot to take in and a bit confusing ...

When you're on Options => Privacy & Security => Content Blocking and check "Custom", would you please read what it says under "Heads up!"

Did you read the comments in that reddit thread I gave you a
link to  ? I too think that people shouldn't worry so much about "being anonymous" on the internet.

You started this thread with the question why "amiunique.org." says that you are being fingerprinted, while you have set Firefox to block fingerprinting.

In my first post I asked you to please take a look at this article :

https://restoreprivacy.com/browser-fingerprinting/

If, after all the other answers you've been giving in this thread, you still have questions, please let us know what exactly it is that's still not clear to you.

The thing what i dont understand is:

Whats the difference between the possilibity to blocking the fingerprint is: at privacy.resistFingerprinting or privacy.trackingprotection.fingerprinting.enabled

which one is bether? Make the two settings the same fake of the list from Fingerprint of the user?

Which one is better for you, that is for you to decide.

I tried to explain the difference earlier, but I did not make it clear enough that they basically do the same thing.

I will give you two links to ghacks pages about both options :

https://www.ghacks.net/2019/03/06/firefox-67-with-anti-fingerprinting-technique-letterboxing/

https://www.ghacks.net/2019/02/05/firefox-67-cryptomining-and-fingerprinting-protection/

Personally I don't have either preference enabled, as I don't want to take the risk of breaking certain websites.

  1. 1
  2. 2
