Hi,

Just when life was tripping along nicely and all Yahoo's videos had been prevented from auto-play, along comes the latest version of FF -- Version 66.0 which appears to have thrown AdBlock & AdBlockPlus into turmoil and released their hold on the videos.

Any knowledge about this, or should I be looking elsewhere for the cause?

Best regards,

Ian

Maybe those videos are now permitted by adblock to grow through their filter. Adblock has been pressured to allow ad content through. And where are you seeing these yahoo ads.

Hi WestEnd, I have an enquiry out with Adblock & Plus, so hope to know more about that soon. I do hope neither of them are succumbing to such pressure though

I am seeing them on Yahoo UK News site.

Just give a link to yahoo uk news and others can see what your seeing or if it is just Region specific?

Hi WestEnd,

I appreciate your research, but would draw your attention to it being the return of video auto-play about which I was enquiring, as opposed to the presence of ads - despite there being a close relationship with both on occasions.

Could you take a look at the suggested settings in this thread, in the EDIT section toward the end:

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/b35aed/is_mediaautoplaydefault_no_longer_supported_after/eixic0m/

I suspect you are already familiar with about:config if you have modified these settings before, but just in case:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste autop and pause while the list is filtered

Then you can modify settings as desired.

Hi jscher2000, I've done as you asked, although there really shouldn't be any need to look at the settings 'cos they weren't changed by me -- but they are as per the screen-shot attached.

In the meantime I've been asked by AdBlock to provide various bits of info, which I've now done, so it'll be interesting to see their response - which I will obviously pass on.

Best regards,

Ian

Probably from this change in FF 66:

"Firefox now prevents websites from automatically playing sound. You can add individual sites to an exceptions list or turn blocking off. To learn more about block autoplay, which will be rolled out gradually to all users, visit the Mozilla blog."
