Delete messages more than ... is greyed
Since version 52.7.0 on mac the "Delete all but the most recent 2000 messages" and "Delete messages more than 30 days old" are not changable (value is greyed). Instead, when clicking on the value, you get immediately a popup saying: "Confirm permanent, automatic deletion of message (...)" (which I canceled, because I don't want to delete all my mails! How can I change this? I want to keep mails for about 5 years, not only for 30 days.

The setting is not select, therefore is not relevant until you select it.
The actual delete or any change to the setting on the pane is not applied until you click the ok button on the pane.
But why worry about a setting for messages if you are going to keep them five years. You might be better served using archive in copies and folders along with the Archive options to customize your archive layout.
Selecting say archives on local folder will remove the mail from the mail server, place it in the local folders archive folder so you do not see all mail in a single folder.
