Not storing passwords and authentication failed

I have just performed a clean install of OSX 10.12.6 then a new install of Thunderbird 60.3.2. By using a profile I have stored on a stick and pointing Thunderbird to it, I have full access to all my old mails and my five email accounts but I cannot send or recieve mails. Thunderbird is continually asking for passwords even when I check the box to store them in password manager. When I check the password manager, it is empty. I have also tried changing the authentication method to 'normal password'. I have only managed to, very briefly, get access to two of my three gmail accounts by adjusting the access to 'Less Secure Apps' within Gmail. Thunderbird did download mail. Now though, I am back to square one, I cannot send or receive, and I have no idea why it didn't work with the third account. One forum suggested the removal of the key3.db file in the profiles folder but this had no effect.

Please confirm the account type for your accounts - POP or IMAP?

The key3.db file isn't used anymore in TB60. Also, please note the TB60.3.3 release notes. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.3.3/releasenotes/

Wrt the migration issue mentioned in the release notes, I don't think it has anything to do with your actual problem, but just in case you're missing any passwords.

Please post your Troubleshooting Information. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the "Copy text to clipboard button" and paste the information into your reply.

Change 'Authentication type' to 'OAuth2' in the Account Settings for your Gmail account(s). This goes for both, incoming server (IMAP), and outgoing server (SMTP). You'll be prompted to enter your Google password the first time you access the account. You may also need to allow cookies for https://accounts.google.com in Thunderbird.

With 'OAuth2' authentication you do not need to 'Allow less secure apps' in your Google settings.

Not related, the 'Manually sort folders' extension is broken in TB60. A fixed version is available at https://github.com/Ximi1970/Manually-Sort-Folders/releases

I'll try that now, although that's what they were set to before. I only changed them to 'normal password' and the 'allow less secure apps' setting, after following instructions from other Mozilla forums.

As said before, with OAuth2 authentication you neither need to 'Allow less secure apps', nor 2-step authentication.

Ok. Checked that link which I had seen before and nothing I hadn't tried apart from the 'Display Unlock Captcha' part which I tried to no avail. So if there is a problem on the Google server, why do my other two accounts have exactly the same problem. Also, why has the problem on all 5 accounts only manifested itself immediately after my new installation of both OS and Thunderbird. Surely any issues with the Google server shouldn't prevent Thunderbird from storing passwords which it seems unable to do.

This is just guessing. Try to clear any Google cookies in Thunderbird.

No. But as long as you cannot login, there's no password for Thunderbird to remember.
