Bookmarks have disappeared & cannot log in

I had a friend(just 1) message me today asking if I'd been hacked. Have run 2 full scans & nothing is showing up. I checked to see if my email address has been hacked & it showed up one occassion but didn't say what or when it was. All my bookmarks have disappeared & all attempts suggested have not remedied the situation. The bookmarks appear to be still there I just cannot access them. I cannot log in or create an alternative profile as it just goes back to the homepage. Pretty cheesed off! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know or I will have to delete Firefox which is a shame after many happy years

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page
    in case errors are reported close and restart Firefox and retry

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi there. I switched on PC this morning & still had the same red error message. However I have managed to create another profile which works(but there are no bookmarks)-well at least I can now save bookmarks etc & the auto suggest is working too which is great as you don't realise what useful tools they both are. Can I move the bookmarks over from the original profile & then delete it? Many thanks for your help. Regards Rob
