Soluzione scelta

A ShutDown error means something about Firefox is not closing properly.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Don't do anything. After a few minutes, close Firefox. Is the problem still there?

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thank you for your help!

I did the crash search, and it showed about ONE HUNDRED Unsubmitted crash reports. And about the same amount of Submitted ones, however, the last one was two years ago!

Now, why is that? I have the preference selected to share some technical information with Mozilla, which says it includes crash reports, and it didn't, nor do I get any window asking if I want to submit it, on the numerous occasions it does. Then I read that:

Technical data: Firefox sends data about your Firefox version and language; device operating system and hardware configuration; memory, basic information about crashes and errors; outcome of automated processes like updates, safebrowsing, and activation to us. When Firefox sends data to us, your IP address is temporarily collected as part of our server logs.

Read the telemetry documentation for Desktop, Android, or iOS or learn how to opt-out of this data collection.

Choose how you want to share this data in Firefox.

Crash reports

By default on desktop versions of Firefox, we will ask you to share a report with more detailed information about crashes with Mozilla, but you always have the choice to decline.

Sensitive data: Crash reports include a ‘dump file’ of Firefox’s memory contents at the time of the crash, which may contain data that identifies you or is otherwise sensitive to you.
Webpage data: Crash reports include the active URL at time of crash.
Technical data: Crash reports include data on why Firefox crashed and the state of device memory and execution during the crash.

So, does it, or does it not include crash report? And when am I to be asked to share a more detailed report, since I've obviously not been for the past two years? And it's nice to know, years later, that these crash reports include data that may be "sensitive" & "identify me", like passwords, birthdate, maybe even Social Security numbers!

Well that sucks...

These reports do not include any such data. The data sent includes your system information, Firefox information, and information on the crash itself.

Did a crash report window show up? And did you submit the report?

I did the crash search, and it showed about ONE HUNDRED Unsubmitted crash reports. And about the same amount of Submitted ones, however, the last one was two years ago!

Are you sure you did not misread the dates?

Why are you telling me the crash reports don't include any sensitive information, when Firefox says it does? I didn't just dream this up, it says that, "Sensitive data: Crash reports include a ‘dump file’ of Firefox’s memory contents at the time of the crash, which may contain data that identifies you or is otherwise sensitive to you"

How could that be any clearer?

As for the dates, no, I didn't misread them! All the ones that had not been submitted were dated from today, on back to 2012, while the submitted ones (other than two I submitted yesterday, before reading the info) were no more recent than 2016...

If you still don't believe me:

And for some reason, on my list of Unsubmitted Crash Reports most of them show 6 different report numbers for the same crash, at the same time, which seems pretty odd, no?

A ShutDown error means something about Firefox is not closing properly.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Don't do anything. After a few minutes, close Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Are you running Firefox in an emulator or virtual machine?

  • os : {"name":"Darwin", "version":"16.7.0", "locale":"en-US"}

I'm not running a virtual machine nor an emulator, have MAC OS 12.6, 12 Gigs RAM.

I tried starting in Safe Mode via your method, it didn't work the way you said, no option, nothing happened. I did start it in Safe Mode last week, via a different method, which I can't now recall, but don't think it solved the problem.

However, when I did close it this time, it shut down as it should, no idea why, as it normally takes forever, or just won't I did have to first shut down several websites, as the RAM use was getting way out of hand! Firefox seems to be the worst at being a RAM hog, frequently using 6 or 7 Gigs of RAM, which is outrageous, and I constantly get the toolbar saying this webpage is using so much it's slowing my computer, do I want to close it or wait... Why does this seem to be getting worse with every new update?
