This problem just began today 9/8/18, and I hadn't done any active updating or tweaking of Firefox.

Soluzione scelta

The "Choose" option is one way to open the full folder list for where you want to save a new bookmark (or move a saved bookmark) for the current page. the other way is to use the little triangle to the right of it.

Is there a problem with the list?

Hi jwlcolorado, could you describe the steps you use to add a bookmark? For example:

  • click the star icon at the right end of the address bar (can be hidden on the Page Actions menu with the ••• icon; right-click it there and click Add to Address Bar to make it appear next to the Page Actions menu again)
  • use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+d
  • right-click a blank part of the page and click the star icon on the context menu
  • use the Bookmarks menu on the classic menu bar and click Bookmark This Page

Normally what happens is that you trigger Firefox to add a bookmark, and a panel drops from the right end of the address bar allowing you to edit the name and change the folder where the bookmarks is saved. Has that changed on yours?

Some things that might be relevant:

Bookmarks Toolbar is Not Displayed

To turn different bars on and off, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank spot on the tab bar (or the "+" button)
  • (menu bar) View > Toolbars
On Windows, tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar temporarily.
  • in Customize mode > Toolbars button (see: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars)

To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.

Bookmarks Toolbar is Displayed, but Bookmarks are Missing

Use the "Restore Defaults" button on the Customize page to move bookmarks back to the bar. See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

Need a Better Bookmarks Menu Toolbar Button

The optional new bookmarks menu button () works the same way as the old bookmarks menu button (the "right-half" of the inseparable star+book duo). To add that button, either:

(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar

(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?

  • Click the "Library" button:
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

Want Bookmarks to be Added to the Bookmarks Menu (or other folder) by Default Instead of Other Bookmarks

There's an add-on for that. Make sure to adjust its settings after installation to choose your preferred folder.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, jscher2000!

1) To answer your questions, my bookmark toolbar is still there with my bookmarks on it. I bookmark by left-clicking the star icon at the right-side end of the url that I want to bookmark.

2) It is just a star, without the underline thing, but there is a star with the underline thing next to the library icon. I haven't been using that.

3) By fiddling around before I got your reply, I found that double-clicking on the star by the url will let me access at least one of my bookmarks. If I select that, then I get access to a "choose" option which finally let's me access all my bookmarks.

4) Some while before this current upset, I needed to select a visible bookmark before I could get a choose option. Earlier, I got a menu of my bookmarks on the 1st go, and could just scroll to what I wanted. Mozilla is going backward with the last 2 "updates"!! .

Hi, Does Dragging a nd Dropping to the Bookmark Toolbar work ?

You can drag and drop to the Star with the pan for better results. Put Library back in the box if do not use it's options.

You can try : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 62.0.0 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks again, jscher2000. It just gives a partial list, but if I choose one, then I can get a "choose" option for the whole list.

Thanks, also Pkshadow but that is way too involved to fix something that was working well but got messed up by some Mozilla "improvement."

Let's consider it resolved, because I can work around it.
