Why did FireFox eliminate bookmarks Description field??????
WELL, THAT PUTS AN END TO UPDATES FOR FIREFOX. How, in the world, could you disrupt an important reference feature such as this?

You can read up these bug reports to see how they came to this decision.

Having a description field is very useful in turning Bookmarks into a documentation / reference system. Thank god I chose to read before I upgraded, which would've lost many 100's of hours of work. How presumptuous of this group to do away with this! I'm now at the end of upgrades to FF. Unless you bring this field back - in a manner which will carry forward my current bookmark description / educational data - it will be the last version I ever use. The sidebar, and these descriptions, was the central reasons that kept FF alive for me!

That field is gone and won't becoming gone as this is the first part of removing the Annotation API.
It is up to extension developers to come up with a replacement for this field.
- bug 1467131 - Clean up bookmark annotation data once annotations have been removed
