lost emails and attachments after inbox repair

Inserita

-I had a problem with emails whereby when I opened them the body would be blank and heater (from & subject) would be different to the email I double clicked. -to fix this I hit "repair folder" on inbox - this resulted in loosing all emails (hundreds) down to about 12 (yikes...major problem now)

-I then search for a solution and find lots files that look like my emails in a folder named Inbox.mozmsgs, I copy the messages out, rename the extension and then import them.

-Now the inbox is back upto 905 messages but none of them have attachments which is a major problem

Can someone help me find the attachments and the lost inbox messages?

FYI -I'm using Kaspersky internet security -I don't have any recent backups, my fault. I even have mozbackup installed but what good is that if I didn't use it -Thunderbird 52.9.1 (32-bit) & win7 pro

Thanks in advance ;)

Header (from & subject) ?

This typically indicates mail file corruption.

Depending on the corruption rebuilding the index may erase messages from the affected folder which cannot be recovered anymore. In that case you'd need to restore them from a recent backup done prior to the corruption.

I ... find lots files that look like my emails in a folder named Inbox.mozmsgs,

Each of those files is a partial copy (up to 20kb) of a message in the mail folder, stored in a .mozmsgs subdirectory. It is used by Windows Search Integration.

Therefore once again, restoring a backup of your Thunderbird profile is your best bet.

Corruption is often caused by anti-virus software messing with Thunderbird mail files. It is therefore recommended to create an exception for the Thunderbird profile folder, so that the real-time scanner won't attempt to scan the profile with your mail.
