Creating it where?

more options

In my address book and inserting it in the to: field when I hit reply, instead of inserting the address I created.

All addressing suggestions come from your address book. Sounds like you typed it wrong one time and it got saved in the Collected address book. Look through all your address books and correct or delete the problem entry.

I do that and it keeps coming back. But thanks for the replies

Just to be sure, you are typing an address in the address field of a new message when this address appears? If yes, Then it is still there someplace. Try this. Start a message. Type the address and when the problem address appears select it. Add a subject to the message and the save to Draft folder. Go to the Drafts folder and make sure the Message Pane is turned on. Pressing F8 toggles the message pane on and off. Click the message once to select and make it display in the Message Pane. In the Message pane header the problem address should be displayed and followed by a color filled star. Color filled stars indicate this address is in one of your address books. Click that star to open the contact dialog box. This dialog box will show what book the contact is in and give you the option to correct or delete. After fixing the address you can delete the draft email.

Nope, the offending address does not pop up and is no where in my address book. When I receive a message from the right address (it is a group address), and hit reply is when the offending address pops up.

re :and hit reply is when the offending address pops up.

this suggests that the email you received has a 'Reply-to' field which may contain an email address inserted by the sender to get replies sent to a specific email address which may be different from what you expected.

Locate the original email sent to you. In the headers, is there a 'Reply-to' header which matches the 'contract-dist@' email address ? If yes, then the sender inserted it because that is the email they want you to use if you reply.

Nope, doesn't come up, and no one on the list likes or uses that inserted address.

Check the full headers. Select email click on 'more' and select 'View source' Is there any mention of that odd email address?

I hit reply to list for an email addressed "contract@unitedacademics.org and the contract-dist addressed was in the to: field (I did not send it) So somehow, my computer is creating that address.

Then that address is either in the from: or replyto: or ReplyToList: headers of the email you are replying to. Thunderbird does not invent them, it can ONLY use what is encoded in the email for a reply.

So as Toad Hall suggested, look at the message headers and work out where the address is coming from. Continuing to repeat the problem is not going to help you find a solution. I am sure everyone is aware what you perceive the problem to be.

Aha, When I hit reply list, up it comes. There is a tab so I can send to all recepients instead of a list. But I do get it out of the reply list options. Or find out what is triggering it.

However, since I make sure I never send to that address, itis not ending up in my address book.

You have had this question answered a number of times. Apparently you have difficulty accepting that it comes with the message you are replying to. My guess, as you are on about a list, is that the list server needs some changes, or the persons sending you the mail need to update their mail settings.

Looking at the union in question and the fact that the email address is offered for a question or complaint that might be related to the contract, feel free to send a confidential email to contract@unitedacademics.org. I am guessing that the union also manages a mailing address for sending mail using that address to other parties. My further guess is that the address iss inserted by the union deliberately. I suggest you take up with them why they use that address.

Thanks for all your help but the union has not done anything to contribute to this as I am the staff for the Union it is something that my computer is somehow doing but I have figured out a way to work around it.

As you have been told. open the message source (ctrl+U) and look at what message header field contains that address. Then we might have a chance of understanding what has been done. Until you look and report what you find, we are just guessing.
