Hi,

I have a html5 chat where you can send mp3 sounds so everyone else in the room can hear them but not if you have firefox. Why is that? It works fine on chrome and every other browser.

Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to post that but some hint on how to resolve the problem would be more appreciated.

Hi supercain3, I tried replicating the issue with the demo site at http://www.123flashchat.net/demo.html, and I used the Send Sound option, but it only offers built-in sounds, not the ability to attach a link to an MP3 file. I've attached a screenshot.

Am I not following the same steps as you? If not, how can I replicate the issue?

Hi,

thank you for your kind answer. Thats the way is supposed to be. The list only features built-in sounds. The problem is that I cant hear them on firefox, only on chrome. Can you hear them on your end?

I've just tested it on

  • Firefox 59.0.2 on Windows 10
  • Microsoft Edge on Windows 10
  • Firefox 59.0.1 on macOS 10.13.3
  • Safari on macOS 10.13.3
  • Chrome 65 on macOS 10.13.3

The only instance of it working was on Chrome. So far, this looks less like the website doesn't work on Firefox, and more like the website only works on Chrome. You said you're on Windows 7... Can you test it in Internet Explorer?

It works on IE as well. But that firefox update looks interesting. Maybe they fixed the bug that is preventing the sounds from being heard??

This is definitely a website compatibility issue, not a driver issue. The question is is it due to a Firefox bug, or an error in the website code?

Looking at the chat site in Chrome, I'm seeing quite a few signs that their HTML5 app has a lot of bugs. For instance, the Advanced Messages menu has {LANG_RABBIT_EMOTION}, and the profile menu has the title {LANG_MENU}.

Have you tried contacting 123flashchat support to see if the HTML5 version is still in beta testing?

Other than that, for the time being, I don't think there's anything you can do to make it work in Firefox.

That is the demo site, I have a full version on my server where all those errors were fixed. The feature used to work on previous versions of Firefox (I believe something around 52) but they changed something for further versions and now it wont work anymore.

I am aware Firefox developers team may not fix this on their source but I would like to know at least what exact code they deprecated so I can fix it myself and make it work for all browsers. I have dev tools console but I dont see any error there.

I've just tested it with Firefox 40, 51, and 52 on Windows 10, but it didn't work for me with either.

One key thing that changed in Firefox 52 was the removal of support for NPAPI plugins. Do you recall having any plugins installed related to 123flashchat?

No, I had no plugins whatsoever. Maybe its system related? Im on Windows 7.

Sorry, the version was FF 54.0.1. A friend who had it tested it there and it worked but now he just upgraded to 59 and the sounds cant be heard anymore.

I've just tested it in 54.0.1, and still no sound. If you'd like to test it, here's a link to 54.0.1: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-54.0.1-ssl&os=win64&lang=en-US

My Windows 10 machine is 32-bit, so that might also be a factor. If you'd like to try the 32-bit version, here's the link: https://download.mozilla.org/?product=firefox-54.0.1-ssl&os=win&lang=en-US

NOTE: Before testing, create a separate Firefox profile to use for testing.

Thanks for the links. I will try them. I reported the problem to the author of the script and I am waiting for their reply. I think I have pinpointed the code but its way too complex for me.

My friend just told me he has Windows 8.1. Maybe somebody can try to replicate it there.
