How can I configure Thunderbird (at launch) to allow me to choose among the many profiles I have created?

I have installed Thunderbird on a laptop with Windows 10 Pro as OS. The Thunderbird application is on a drive separate from the drive which contains multiple Thunderbird profiles.

First, how do I configure the main Thunderbird application so that when I launch it from the taskbar or desktop I get to choose which of those profiles I want to use?

Second, having used one of those profiles, how can I then "toggle" (or switch) between that profile and one of the other profiles?

Third, how can I configure Thunderbird so that all of these profiles use a common address book and have many other settings in common?

Thanks for any help you can give this new Thunderbird user,

Mike

Press Windows key+R, type thunderbird.exe -p This will launch the Profile Manager and allow you to choose which profile to run. Uncheck the box 'Don't ask at startup' to have PM appear when you launch TB. Install ProfileSwitcher to change profiles while TB is running. Drag the Download Now button from the webpage and drop it onto Tools/Add-ons/Extensions in TB to install.

Using a common address book with multiple profiles is a bit more complex:

Thanks,

With your help, I've gotten:

- the Profile Manager working properly on Thunderbird launch from the Win 10 taskbar.

- the Profile Switcher Add-On Extension working in each of my profiles. [Had to follow your instructions on each profile. Took a little time; but, they are all working and I can now get to every other profile from each one.]

After reading through all the address book possibilities, ActiveSync seems to offer the most promise. Before I proceed with that option, am I safe in presuming that Mozilla is an "ActiveSync provider" (i.e., will changes I make in my Thunderbird address book(s) get shared with my Microsoft and Apple e-mail "contact" lists ... and vice versa)?

Two down, one to go.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

I don't know about Apple contacts - it depends on how and where they are stored. TB doesn't support Exchange ActiveSync directly, but there is another add-on besides tzpush, TbSync, that will sync contacts and calendars from outlook.com/hotmail accounts.

Thanks again for your help.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, download, installation, and use of tzpush will afford me a high degree of certainty that I will have an address book (after synching) that is common across all my Thunderbird profiles. I.e., an addition, deletion, or change in one Thunderbird profile's address book will replicate (with appropriate synching) across all my Thunderbird profiles.

Further, if I want to extend that synching to Microsoft e-mail applications and their address books / contact lists, I can download, install, and use TbSync.

Synching with Apple e-mail applications is more problematic ... and one I'll hold off addressing until I get the Thunderbird and Microsoft synching to work.

Do I have all that correct? If "yes", I'm about to start incorporating the two add-ins / extensions you've provided me.

Gratefully,

Mike

I haven't tried either add-on myself, but if you install one of them in all profiles, the address book should sync with the MS one; they won't sync with a 'non-online' address book. Note that both add-ons sync contacts, but TbSync syncs calendars in addition if you have Lightning installed.

If TbSync works out well, please report your results here so others may benefit.
