I'm using Firefox 59 on Windows 7, around 8 days ago I cleared/ deleted its search/ browsing history(see attached file). Upon opening Firefox the next day, the restore previous session option was greyed out.. Firefox only showed the homepage. I looked into the mozilla profile folder(C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\kj0si91z.default\sessionstore-backups) but it only contained 2 files(recovery.baklz4 and recovery.jsonlz4, both dated the day after clearing history).

I also tried the System Restore software of Windows 7 but the only available restore points are from year 2013(the system protection is turned on). Now, I'm trying the software MZHistoryView to check places.sqlite(date and time of which seems right before clearing/ deleting history) but I can't get past this(see attached file).

After clearing history, I only ever opened Firefox once, it "closed" due to power interruption. How can I recover the Firefox session(had tons of important tabs)? Even bits of info about that session will be of great help. Thank you!

Are you possibly using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the history?

Clearing the history via "Clear Recent History" shouldn't affect reopening tabs the next time, but using "Clear history when Firefox closes" will prevent Firefox from reopening tabs.

Since you cleared all your personal data there is not much to work with. If you recently used the refresh feature in Firefox then you can check the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

Note that safest is to use "Show my windows and tabs from last time" when it comes to not losing open tabs.

Hi, cor-el.

Nope, I always clear manually(see attached file) via Clear Recent History then refresh a page before turning off the PC. Upon reopening Firefox, the restore previous session option is almost always there.

Refresh feature? I'll check.. I don't think I know what that is.

Yup, I'll be using that setting next time I use Firefox.. I'm not touching it now. What do you think about places.sqlite? Thank you, Cor-el.

The places.sqlite file stores bookmarks and history, but has nothing to do with closed tabs. Closed tabs are part of the session data that is stored in sessionstore.jsonlz4 and files in the sessionstore-backups folder.

You can read this article about refreshing Firefox.

I see.. but since I cleared the history, my places. sqlite file probably only contains the bookmarks.

I checked the previous versions of sessionstore.jsonlz4.. the only available version is from year 2013.

Too bad, I wasn't aware of therefresh feature. :(

Thank you for the links, Cor-el.
