Thunderbird not showing .jpg attachments after being read in another e-mail application

I'm having an issue where Thunderbird does not show .jpg attachment after the attachment has been read using another e-mail application (K-9 Mail for Android in this case). When I open the .jpg photo via Windows 10 Photo Viewer, it cannot be displayed and seems to be corrupted. FYI: There are no X's on the photo attachment and the photo can also not be displayed if saved to file on desktop before opening. Other mail applications can still open the picture in that same email (Windows 10 mail and K-9 Mail for Android). The email account is IMAP and I'm running Thunderbird 52.3.0 in Windows 10 . Thanks for any help with this.
