Issues with Flash - Firefox sending me away to another browser?
Firefox Imgur and Flash WIthin imgur there is a button to copy a link to images. Within Firefox that doesn't work properly, at least *I* didn't get it to work properly. Either it doesn't work, or something else is showing up (recently)
Within Chrome, no issues.
I understand that Firefox does not support Flash, but fact is that a lot of sites still have Flash. Believe Chrome and Edge support Flash websites, have a built in Flash or something. Probably they have more control then?
So Firefox is either chasing away their users to the 'competition' (I have Chrome on my pc as well), or users should separately install Flash, which may then be more vulnerable than when Flash is 'built in' (controlled) by the browser.
Either way, it is disappointing.
I understand the policy, I understand that websites should switch to HTML5 but right now, it doesn't help me much.
No.. indeed there is no question here, just frustration.

I don't know if this means anything, but Your System Details shows no flash player.
I'm not sure what you think is wrong. I don't think that this has anything to do with Flash.
In Firefox you get an image with a link that you can click to go to imgur (Linked BBCode:[url=xx][img]xxx/img/url). In IE you only have the image selected (BBCode:[img]xxx/img).
Did you click the down arrow to check what formats are available?
@FredMcD Yes, you are right. Reason why I need another browser to view sites with Flash content.
@Cor-el Where Chrome shows a [Copy] button, Firefox shows something with VLC and 'play'. When I click on it, it seems to refer to a .swf (see screenshot).
As said, this problem will most probably be solved after installing Flash.
As a simple end-user I see it this way:
- Mozilla wishes to force website developers to use HTML5
- Mozilla does not wish to be held responsible for possible Flash vulnerabilities, malware, whatever, leaving it to users to sort it out
- Sorting out means:
-spending time on wondering why things don't work as expected -communicating with support (for example, in my case, email exchange with imgur in an attempt to figure out what might be the cause) -and in the end that decide to either install Flash themselves or use another browser that (still) supports Flash)
- Mozilla accepts the possibility of users liking the 'other' browser and make that browsers as default
BTW, note: a while back FF was causing significant issues on my system. In fact, it could not be installed(!): it would not launch firstrun, even on a system where all traces of Firefox were removed. I mean all (folders, registry settings, all) were gone, even after trying half a dozen times. Spent many, many hours on trying to find the solution.
So I had to change to Chrome. I have worked with Chrome for a while and I liked it... It was/is fast and I have never encountered any issues. imgur worked fine, Flash websites worked fie.
Only because Chrome did and does not support 2 or 3 of my default add-ons I was more or less 'forced' to give FF a try again. Got in working to run in admin-mode: run as as admin.
- Probably cutting out Flash supports saves development costs

Firefox for Windows, Mac OSX , and Linux certainly supports the NPAPI Flash Player. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (make sure you uncheck the extras since you use Windows before download).
The Win64 Firefox only has 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight Plugins white listed to run so if one needs other Plugins also on Windows hen use the 32-bit Firefox and 32-bit Plugins.
I know that . . . That is not the point.
The point is that Firefox is a bit like buying a 4-seat car, without a backseat. You can drive around alright, but you need to buy the backseat elsewhere.
Or.. alternatively, go to another dealer where they sell a complete car.
Anyway, I had to give way to my 'frustration', have made my point. No-one of Mozilla listens or cares anyhow.

Did you try what happens if you disable VLC?
VLC is known before to cause issues with taking over specific content that is best handled by other plugins.
No, I didn't disable VLC. Why should I ? It is a Firefox issue. Chrome performs okay - with Firefox I must take extra actions, like installing Flash to make it work.
It isn't VLC by the way, it is Flash. I just installed Flash on my VM to see how it worked out.
Now the imgur copy button is okay.

VLC has been known to take over some Flash functions and other media stuff before. So VLC should not be dismissed as a possible cause.
Google and Adobe made the Pepper Flash Player and since it is bundled the Chrome browser can get frequent updates if only just for Flash at times.
Mozilla has no plans to somehow bundle the NPAPI Flash Player with Firefox on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux due to license, costs and download sizes and other issues. Nor does Mozilla plan to use the PPAPI version.
