Bookmark Folders

Today when I started Firefox V49.0.2 (Windows 7) I found that "one" of many bookmark folders which contained additional folders inside is missing. My first thought was it might have gone into the Recycle Bin but it did not. Next, I looked for it in other folders in my Bookmark collection but did not find it their either. Using hints on the Support Pages, I looked in my Profile Folder and cannot find a readable view of the folder nor the links that it contained. I did find commands in REGEDIT for FIREFOX and BOOKMARK but found nothing helpful. What is most odd is that a link opened from History when I try to Bookmark it, one of the subfolders in the high-level folder is present in the list even though the folder is not shown in Show All Bookmarks.

I really need to recover this folder, subfolders, and links so hope that someone can define the process necessary to accomplish this task..

Firefox uses a file, not a folder, to store bookmarks and history together.

Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

Open the Add-ons Manager. Locate the add-on and press the Options button. Then follow the directions.

Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks. These are stored in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Open the Bookmarks Manager; Press the Alt or F10 key bring up the tool bar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control>(Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Restore. From the list, pick the file you want and click it.

The backups are stored in a jsonlz4 file named something like this; bookmarks-2016-06-29_1424_enD1GTHya0JmicnYWg4V4g==.jsonlz4 In this example; 2016-06-29 = date created, 1424 = number of entries.
