I would click a link while in eBay and this urgent firefox pop up would come up. After weeks of this, I got worried that maybe it is legit because eBay is buggy as all get out! So I saved the file to my desktop. I did NOT open it. Then I thought, um may be see if this is a scam. Wish my brain had thought of that FIRST. Anyway, I immediately deleted that icon on my desktop and then deleted my trashcan. I do have Webroot Spysweeper on my computer but they never popped anything warning me about this. They MIGHT have done so had I tried to open that saved icon. Do I need to be worried that I foolishly saved it to my desktop to begin with?

Thanks,

hi dashopaholic2, when you have only downloaded the file without trying to open it and deleting it straight ahead, it won't have done any harm.

. Whenever you get a message / popup that software / files need to be updated;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS

While this may be a legitimate message, it could also be Malware or a Virus. Any time you want or need to check for upgrades, go to the website of the True Owner of the program in question. For example, to check out Firefox, go to https://www.mozilla.org {web link}

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

I get that now. But do I need to worry that I SAVED it to my desktop to begin with? Just by saving it, could it infect my computer?

thanks!
