Thank you Kaartic. The liv.com login address appears in the firefox address line but I cannot login to live.com and my hotmail address. this has happened for the last 2/3 days.

Hi, delete all references to the website in question, as shown under the heading 'How do I remove a single website from my history?' in this article - Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox, then try the site (not from an old bookmark) again. Note: It may take a few minutes to complete the deletion.

Thank you, Scribe. I don't have any history to delete. In the firefox address bar, if I enter https://login.live.com/login, then nothing happens. Also the same if i use my sign In bookmark.

It doesn't just delete history, it clears everything connected with that site, so you can start afresh. Do not use a bookmark. Try entering live.com

The fact that Gmail is OK, suggests it is a site specific issue, but you can have a look at your AV https/SSL settings as show in How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites

Thank you, Scribe. Using live.com also gives the 'unable to connect' message, i.e. the same message I get from all other attempts. My solution is to set up a new account with runbox and transfer all I did with hotmail to runbox. I'm going to ditch hotmail forever. Best wishes from rassauman.

I still think I'm going to get a runbox account. IBM Security Trusteer Rapport tell me live.com is trying to read my keystrokes every time I type in my password to sign in to my hotmail account - but this is blocked by the IBM Security Trusteer Rapport programme.
