firefox 47.0 on an OSX 10.6.8 and almost every website becomes slow and eventually freezes. fixes above don't work. help!
I've been a big fan of Firefox until about a year ago. Slowly, things slow down. Now browsing is a pain in the arse....slow, unresponsive and the big freeze, force quit, tear my hair out. I've tried Letting the script run longer, Error happens when accessing certain websites, Other causes from your troubleshooting page and nothing helps (that doesn't almost completely disable pages). WTF is happening? I suspect bad ads and video I don't want. I realize I'm on an old system but I keep it pristine. I'm a webmaster, so not totally clueless. I was on CNN and Huffington Post recently (they used to run fine) and both become slow within 20 seconds and freeze up by 2 minutes. Alternet and Salon...forget about it. They freeze within seconds. I've updated Firefox and Flash regularly. I'm so frustrated I'm going to crumble and start using Chrome FGS! I want to continue to support you but this is becoming unbearable and a waste of time. Please help or I'm outta here. Thanks for everything up to lately! Susan

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Thank you Fred but this only slightly helped. I've got a few more minutes on websites before they slow and grind to a halt. Mostly I'm seeing very altered webpages when in FF safe mode. I'm seeing more of a pattern when a heinous video ad is trying to load, or worse, several of them at the same time. I've got 10 mbs internet speed...not fast but not dial up. I stream movies okay most of the time. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Fred and community!
