Hi There,

I run Windows 7 64xbit. I've used Kaspersky Internet Security for 10 years now with Firefox with no real serious problems till now. About 6 months ago I did a reinstall of Kaspersky Internet Security 2015. When offered a newer version of the product I downloaded it. Firefox then would not open and there was just a continual message from the Mozilla Crash Reporter. I then uninstalled that version and reinstalled the old version of the disc and everything worked again.

A few days ago I installed Kaspersky Internet 2016. I installed the newer version of the software when offered it via the Internet and I was back to the same problem, Firefox would not open once again. Just a continual message from the Mozilla Crash Reporter. I then uninstalled that version and installed the older version of the disc but that made no difference. Keep getting a continual message from the Mozilla Crash Reporter and Firefox will not open.

I've contacted Kaspersky Technical Support but have not heard back yet? I also report the crashed to Mozilla but to no avail. No answer back? I'll add a few screen shots thanks to Internet Explorer! I've just uploaded the first image but it keeps continually saying uploading images without actually finishing the task so I can't add more images and will now move on. If I lose now what I have already written I will just paste this message back in a new question so that will be what you will see with no images.

Now you are giving me instruction about trouble shooting for use with a Firefox browser. Well if I did not have Internet Explorer I would not be writing this so that is useless.

Thank you

With all due respect to my learned colleague, but the Modules tab of each of those Crash Reports shows inproc_agent.dll as the sole module precipitating each of those crashes.

Yes, the main page of those Crash Reports shows a Relates Bug report against [@ PR_Read | GetStatusFileContents<T> ] - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1205987 - that was filed by philipp - but looking further into your Crash Reports shows otherwise. See the red highlighted DLL files listed on the Modules page in all 5 of your Crash Reports in case Firefox 45 continues to crash for you.

   Plugins PDK

   Kaspersky Lab ZAO

Description:

   Kaspersky Inproc Agent

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

thanks for providing some information about your crashes. this looks like it is caused by external software on the computer. please go into your system's control panel and remove any software labelled "Freecorder" or similar or by the publisher "Applian Technologies" or any other toolbars.

Thanks for the quick response. I read that about Freecorder and other Toolbars might be a problem before I posted my question. I don't have Freecorder, Toolbars, or any other Applian Technologies related software installed. I know all that stuff is a bit dodgy.

I just booted in Safe Mode with Networking and Mozilla worked. Normal boot and I'm back to square one reported crash and won't open once more.

It has to be Kasperky that is the problem somehow. So it's no Firefox and I will have to unwillingly use Explorer or another browser. Other option change and buy new ant-virus software when I've just purchased a new one?

Firefox is not perfect by any means and is actually in decline to what it used to be a few years ago. It used to be bliss compared to Explorer but not anymore. Still a better option than Explorer now I've been forced to use that one again against choice.

Well I suppose that's it unless you can think of something else. Thanks Philipp for your time.

please trust me, it isn't kaspersky but the remains of this toolbar on your system. you can also try the following:

  1. press windows-key+R and open: msconfig
  2. in the dialog that opened, switch to the startup-panel
  3. disable FLVSrvc.exe (or similar sounding programs)
  4. restart your computer

I trust you wholeheartedly but I can only previously see that if I uninstall Kaspersky Mozilla works.

Well thank you very much I found it in the start up menu and 'bingo.' I now remember I had Freecorder or something like it installed on this PC about 8, 9, or 10 years ago? I uninstalled it as if I remember correctly it tried to reconfigure all my browser settings and I had to go into Firefox to change them all back. Big drink on me Philipp!

Slight problem still as I am getting this message sometimes when trying to open Firefox; "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window." Happens even if Firefox has no visible pages open. Bit of a pain but I can live with that otherwise. Maybe a Windows problem and not Firefox?

Many, many, thanks.
