Is there a way to save email messages into a folder on my computer hard drive

When I click Select All for my saved messages, to move them to a folder in my documents, I can not move them all. I can move them individually, but that is slow going, as there are hundreds to move. Is there a faster way? Is there a quicker way to move them, period? Can't help but think I am going about it the wrong way.

Soluzione scelta

The method you are describing will save all messages to a folder at one time. Attachments are saved, but not any remote content.

Single messages can be saved in any windows folder in a selectable format 'save as type' - eml, txt, html. Groups of messages are stored in the selected folder as EML files only. There is no 'save as type' option.

Saved messages can be opened by the appropriate windows program, typically a plain text editor for txt files - notepad, a browser for HTML files - firefox, a mail program for EML files - thunderbird.

To save a group of messages

In Thunderbird, open folder to display messages. Ctrl + A to select all messages right-click for context menu, select 'save as...' navigate to a folder in left pane, press 'Select Folder'

All selected messages will be saved to the selected folder. There is no confirmation of save.

If one or more of the messages already exist in that folder (messages where subject is the same), you will be asked to confirm each overwrite, there is no 'overwrite all' option. This could be a problem if you are trying to archive messages into an existing folder. You may overwrite a previous message that has the same subject line.

Windows will treat the files in this folder as normal files, no preview of contents, not searchable by Thunderbird. Is this really what you want?
