2 different computers are now crashing every few minutes after the latest update on FF. I tried some of your suggestions and then decided before I do anything drastic I would look on your FB page. You should read it. Hundreds of people are having the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS, so it is NOT on our end. I am now using Chrome until this is resolved. I have loved FF but this is unacceptable. People are angry. You have made no attempts to acknowledge this problem or say a patch or update is in the works. What is happening, no bull**it. I have to open task manager just to close FF every single time.

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

This is one of Mozilla answers but it does not help this. Please acknowledge a problem. If you don't believe me go onto Facebook and see what hundreds of your users are saying. Come on.

You haven't actually said what problems you are having with Firefox and the problems you are having are different than the problems every person on Facebook is having, so please, elaborate on what YOU are having trouble with.

There is a Firefox 41.0.1 version planned that addresses a bug about FB.

  • Bug 1178601 - Don't crash on incomplete FB

If you suffer from these crashes on FB then wait for this update.

There is also the issue of new Flash Player 19 with some FB games in which has nothing to do with Firefox.

Facebook doesn't provide a good platform for exploring these issues in detail, so thank you for posting here.

2 different computers are now crashing every few minutes after the latest update on FF. ... I have to open task manager just to close FF every single time.

We generally distinguish between a "crash" -- where Firefox is terminated involuntarily -- and a "hang" where Firefox freezes for an unusually long period of time or permanently (when you might use the Task Manager to "end" Firefox).

Freezing and/or Not Responding

Our support article: Firefox hangs or is not responding - How to fix.

Since Flash can cause this problem and it is used pervasively through the web, I suggest the following to minimize potential issues with Flash during your troubleshooting:

(1) To avoid unnecessary pain on sites where Flash is not actually essential, try setting Flash to Click-to-Play ("Ask to Activate"). This will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it.

To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

With this setting, when you visit a site that wants to use Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

The plugin notification icon in the address bar typically looks like a small, dark gray Lego block. (If it's red, Flash needs updating.)

The delay in activating Flash can help distinguish between problems caused on initial page load, styling, and script activation vs. Flash.

If you see a good reason to use Flash, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click the notification icon in the address bar to allow Flash. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

But some pages use Flash only for tracking or playing ads, so if you don't see an immediate need for Flash, feel free to ignore the notification! It will just sit there in case you want to use it later.

(2) A common cause of unresponsive script errors on Windows Vista and higher is the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have serious compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try that for a day to see whether it helps.

Crashing

If you are getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter form, your Firefox may have logged some data that would help track down the cause of the problem. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.

Yes, I did address my problems, it doesn't really matter what page I go to, I usually have about 4 tabs open and when I try to open a page, FF just gets a cloud of white over it and does not respond to anything, I used to get unresponsive script but that doesn't even happen as it completely freezes. I have to close in task manager. I have let it sit and when I come back it is the same.

I do not play any games on FB or anywhere else. I freeze on Pinterest, Facebook, my email, etc...

I crash on other sites as well and I do not play games of any kind.

hi, please try updating to firefox 42 beta - there is a good chance that the "firefox not responding" issue is already resolved there: https://www.mozilla.org/beta
