getting rid of https?
Got desktop back from service and now every browse session is substantially slowed by https which I did not request, understand or necessarily desire.
I want to get rid of it. I tried doing something as suggested on line without result.
I'm not tech savvy and hope for a solution stated simply enough that even I can follow the directions. Assuming I know anything about computers is a great way to give directions that are beyond my grasp. Please dumb it down for me.

Hmm, I noticed your Firefox identified itself as the beta version of Firefox 41, 64-bit. Perhaps you would have better luck with the current release, which is Firefox 40, 32-bit (which of course runs on 64-bit Windows 7). Would you want to try that?

you both don't want to and can't get rid of HTTPS. It is a web technology that provides for secure communication with web servers, and you can't control if a server wants to use it or not. It however should not be slowing down your connections, so let's figure out what's going on there.
Have you refreshed your Firefox? Try that! Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
I hit the refresh button and nothing happened.
I couldn't find the restart where the instructions tried to direct me.

Could it have restarted without my knowing? I saw no arrow moving in a tight circle or any of that. There was no discernable effect when I hit restart.

I'd love to try the 40 version 32 bit. How do I do it?
This is my usual description, for 32-bit to 32-bit. You might have both program folders, I'm not sure, so obviously they can't both get renamed to Fx41. Perhaps the older 32-bit one should be renamed FxOld.
Clean Reinstall
We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.
(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 40.0.2 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)
(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).
(C) Rename the program folder, either:
(32-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows folder names)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx41
(32-bit Firefox on 32-bit Windows folder names) (maybe also 64-bit Firefox on 64-bit Windows)
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
to
C:\Program Files\Fx41
(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.
Success?
Note: Some plugins may exist only in that Fx41 folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
- \Fx41\Plugins
- \Fx41\browser\plugins
