After some Firefox updates, and in particular the latest (40.0) my HP Simplepass stops loading/starting when needed. Its icon isn't in the toolbar though it was before. Tools/Add-ons says it is always available. I 'repaired' it from Windows control panel and that didn't help.

And one day later, after a couple reboots, it all starts up again. Quicker than before (Simplepass is really, really slow.)

Working fine today.

For security reasons, it is best not to roll back to the regular release of Firefox 38. Instead, you could consider a different variant of Firefox called the Extended Support Release (ESR). This is designed for companies that require a longer cycle time between feature changes, and coincidentally is currently is based on Firefox 38. It will get security updates over the next several months, but not get new features, so hopefully it will stay compatible for quite a while. If you decide to try it, here is how I suggest installing it: Clean Reinstall We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed. (A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.2.1esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) (B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable). (C) Rename the program folder, either: (64-bit Windows folder names) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox to C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx40 (32-bit Windows folder names) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox to C:\Program Files\Fx40 (D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings. Does that work with your HP SimplePass add-on? Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:
  • \Fx40\Plugins
  • \Fx40\browser\plugins

Thank you for the suggestion, however once completed my Simple Pass still does not activate when I load a page that should cause Simple Pass to pop up. It does not notify me on the top of the page (via a drop down) nor does the fingerprint scanner flash, indicating to me that I am on a page that I have saved log in information.

Hi LadyKai, do you have the plugin set to "Always Activate" on the Add-ons page? You can check by opening the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for this plugin and change "Ask to Activate" to "Always Activate", if applicable. If the plugin is missing from regular alphabetical order, scroll to the bottom of the list to see whether it is disabled.

If it still doesn't work, hmm, I thought it was compatible with Firefox 38.

Making progress. Since September Simplepass has been working with Firefox - my impression is that someone updated something. Simplepass seems to self-update automatically and can't be stopped unless you uninstall it.

It's still slow as ever. But it does support multiple logins on the same site now - a window opens to ask which you want to use.

Fred2179 - What version of Firefox are you using simplepass with? I have not been able to get it to work since 39.0.3. That is the last version I was able to get it to work with. Are you using the latest version 42?

I'm on 42.0 and have updated constantly since Simplepass stopped working. You do have to switch/download the latest version of Simplepass. There's no 'about' option (it is a very crude program) but I think I am using version 8.0.

And (Murphy's law transcendent again) since I posted that it is working, it stopped. Firefox has been very unstable these past few days, so I did a "refresh" which turned off all my add-ons. I re-enabled Simplepass, but it hasn't started doing anything.

nice that you got it to work again mine never started up again since the 40.0 update

tessiss, check that you have the latest Simplepass version and make sure it is enabled in Forefox (settings/addons/extensions) Interesting that if you ever "refresh" Firefox, the Simplepass add-in stops working. It is disabled when you restart Firefox, but doesn't start working when you enable it. I had this happen before. Not sure how I got it to work. Will post again if I figure it out.

I don't know how your are keeping vers 6 running.

After refreshing Firefox, I still can't get Simplepass to work on the browser. It does let me log in to windows.

Well, guess what. Two developments:

1. I had 'enabled' Simlpepass after 'refreshing' Fiirefox, so this morning I went to the Tools/Add-ons/Extensions and 'disabled' it, then I 'enabled' it again. It started to work. Suggest you try a disable/enable cycle or two.

2. When I clicked the Store icon in Simplepass, I got to the vendor site where there is a Support option. http://store.softexinc.com/hp/support/faq

I opened a ticket and got an almost immediate reply from Softexinc. Stay tuned.

Note: if you upgrade to Firefox 43.0, your Simplepass stops working. Mozilla elected, in their wisdom, to disable all "unsigned" add-ons. I downgraded back to 42.0
