Download an app for Firefox OS via a desktop Browser

I would like to download apps dedicated for Firefox OS via a Firefox on my Linux desktop. However it will not let me. It just shows that it is not available for my platform. No download button.

I would like to install apps this way because it is faster, cheaper and I administer more firefox OS phones. Then I just let the phones download the app locally.

I see, I understand that you would like to download app for Firefox OS devices however need to download them on the linux desktop first. There is the Web IDE that you can use to download/load apps onto a Firefox OS device that is connected via ADB. Read more about it here:

In the meantime, there is an open bug that has been taken to change this confusion, since Firefox is an open platform afterall: Bug for more info, please do not comment on bug

I hope this helps as its a temporary work around:

  1. Open Settings on Firefox OS deveice and go to Developer, change Debugging via USB to ADB and DevTools
  2. Open WebIDE and select the device. The device will be prompted to use debugging, select allow.
  3. Add a new app that is either packaged or hosted and you can push this app to the device.
  4. Select the app and click the play icon in the ide (you should see on the device "App name has been installed")

However it may be easier to download the app to the phone directly, this is how you push an app that has been downloaded to the desktop successfully. If there is not a packaged version available, email the support site on the marketplace page for now.
