i recently bought a brand new macbook pro 2012 edition laptop direct from apple with i7 cpu and 16G of ram so this isn't a hardware issue. i'm a long time firefox user on windows and linux so am comfortable with how firefox is supposed to work.

on my new laptop i've installed and updated all current firefox mac versisons as they've become available : 37.0, 37.0.1 and i just upgraded to 37.0.2. i've upgraded flash shockwave twice to make sure it was always updated as well.

i also have the mac parallels destop virtualization software running on this mac and have win 8.1 pro installed in a virtual guest. in that windows virtual guest, i've also installed and updated all current firefox windows versisons as they've become available : 37.0, 37.0.1 and i just upgraded to 37.0.2. i've upgraded flash shockwave twice to make sure it was always updated as well.

my firefox windows running in a win 8.1 pro virtual guest on this macbook pro runs fine and exactly how i'm used to running it!!! however, i've had nothing but problems from day one using firefox mac running on the native host!!! it's been a nightmare and just randomly acts weird and buggy including if i run it in safe mode. it's odd to me that the same exact programs don't work the same (one works fine the other horribly) on the same exact system with plenty of performance in terms of hardware to run both. the only difference is the stable firefox is windows and the unstable one is mac!

both of these were brand new installs. i didn't import any bookmarks or old settings from a previous system.

SYMPTOMS :

- firefox (aka ff from here on out) has randomly crashed 4-5 times already for no reason (very few tabs loaded)

- the mouse interaction in ff mac is just bizzare / buggy. it's noticeable all the time:

-- in ff win, i can simply drag a tab onto a folder in the bookmarks toolbar and it will dropdown and let me drag navigate drop it where i want! THAT ALWAYS WORKS AND I DO IT A LOT SO IT HAS TO WORK. however in ff mac, the placement of the mouse over the folder is very finicky. sometimes it will force the folder to drop down and sometimes it doesn't. but what's even worse is negotiating the drag so that the tab "enters" the folder so that you see a "line" as an indicator that the tab has entered the folder for drag placement works maybe 50% of the time only. MORE CLEARLY EVERY TIME I TRY TO DRAG A TAB INTO A BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR FOLDER IT MAYBE WORKS 50% OF THE TIME IF THAT.. WHAT I HAVE TO DO IS KEEP REDRAGGING ON AND INTO THE FOLDER TO TRY AND MAKE IT "STICK".... THERE'S NOT RHYME OR REASON TO IT.. I JUST HAVE TO RETRY DRAGGING THE TAB OVER AND INTO THE FOLDER UNTIL IT APPEARS THERE WHICH CAN TAKE 1, 2 OR 10 ATTEMPTS. SINCE I SAVE A LOT OF BOOKMARKS, AND THIS IS MY TYPICAL METHOD OF WORKING WITH THEM IT'S FRUSTRATING BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!

- in ff win i can hover over an empty space in the bookmarks toolbar and right click to insert a new folder in the position i place the mouse in the empty space. in ff mac, it will always insert the new folder at the end of the bookmarks toolbar!

- in ff win, i can insert spacers in the bookmarks toolbar or bookmarks sidebar and then click drag them to reposition them where i want. in ff mac, i can insert them with right click but i can NOT select them to click drag them in the bookmarks toolbar and sometimes the behavior to select click the spacers is inconsistent in the boomarks sidebar

- one time when i went to "show bookmarks" in ff mac, none of my bookmark folders were present though they were visible in the bookmarks toolbar and sidebars???? restarting ff mac did fix that.

- early on i had a number of occasions where ff mac keyboard text input just stopped working though the mouse would still work in the browser. fyi, when this happens, the keyboard input works fine on the rest of the mac and all the other applications. it only stops working in ff mac. restart of ff fixes the issue.

- sometimes clicking to select text (a word) in ff mac (for copy paste) works weird too. single click will select the whole paragraph instead of a single word and normally you can click again to cycle back to single click a word or double click to select a sentence or triple click to select a paragraph but it just gets stuck and doesn't work like it should

as you can see, the problems appear to be related specifically to ff mac and in general mouse, keyboard, display interaction types of issues. non of the rest of the mac osx or other apps seem to be affected or behave in this manner which leads me to believe it's ff mac with yosemite issue. as i said, ff win in the parallels virtual guest on this same machine is working perfectly as i'm used to. in sum, all the other applications work fine with same mouse, keyboard, display and operating system. on ff mac is having this consistently buggy experience.

i still get the same issues when i run ff mac in safe mode and this was a new and clean profile from the moment i got this laptop 2 weeks ago.

any thoughts? i've updated ff to the latest 3 updates since getting this computer and it is still doing everything i describe above?

thanks

sorry for the long initial post but just trying to be clear about overall weird ff interface behavior. does anybody have any suggestions here? how do you get the mozilla direct support vs just hope someone in the forum replies? thx

still having same problems.

is this the only way to get support from firefox? where are the developers that write the code? or someone directly responsible for the product? i don't expect an end user to help but this is ridiculous. the windows version works fine but the mac version doesn't. i'm running both on the same machine so it's not the hardware (running windows as a virtual guest in parallels).
