Hello I have a bunch of tabs, and some of them get periodically replaced with some javascript code? I'm not sure, but i did find a few people that have exactly the same problem:

http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/161366-Code-in-Firefox-after-closing-all-tabs

And further this:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Web_Browsers/Q_28246484.html

Now ,my pc is windows 7 ,running whatever the last version (always up to date) of firefox was at the time (a few months ago it started and then happened a few times)

I still have the tabs sitting like there like that , and would appreciate if there's a solution. I would like a solution to prevent it from happening again and i want to understand what the meaning of the code is and if there's somewhere within it that i can find the lost webpages.

Thank you

The McAfee SiteAdvisor extension has been reported to cause issues with text Chinese appearing on tabs, so you can disable this extension.

See also these SUMO threads:

No, it's not mcafee siteadvisor, i don't remember ever installing anything mcafee related, let alone their addon.

It's not 'chinese characters' either, it's actually like javascript code and the page is missing. Itstead of the page ,it just says "http://s.ytimg.com/yts/jsbin/html5player-en_US-vfloyxzv5.js" and when you click on it ,there's a bunch of... javascript code is what it is i guess.

@FredMcD

Okay , thanks, I didn't know i had 2 versions of flash installed... I uninstalled flash via your link and installed it again. That might actually explain why i have issues with my screen and things looking weird or why the google calendar addon was crashing, but i don't think it has anything to do with the tabs. I used to have issues with youtube videos not running properly as well,but i fixed it like a year ago somehow (i don't think it was flash related).

This is how the google calendar addon looks like when it crashes from time to time. It looks blank and there's only a few buttons left on it.

Can you post your troubleshooting data?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

@cor-el

Thank you.

I've always liked the programs on bleepingcomputer.com. With updating Adwcleaner , and crossreferencing it with the troubleshooting data i found:

"foxlingo" and "invite all" to be potentially unwanted programs or viruses: http://www.foxlingo.com/ {ef62e1ce-d2a4-4cdd-b7ec-92b120366b66} was in folders

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/invite-all-for-facebook/ jid0-zs24wecdcQo0Lp18D7QOV4WSZFo@jetpack.xpi was in files

I removed the addons from firefox.

The quickscan on microsoft safety scanner showed no files infected I cannot run mbam ,because i don't have a free trial any longer

tdsskiller shows no threats found aswMBR (another rootkit program) crashes (not responding) on startup

Hm, I'm not sure what to do in safe mode. I'm not sure what triggers the tabs to change into code (and it's very irregular) , so i can't know if it stops happening in safe mode. By the way it's definitely possible that most of the replaced links are actually youtube videos, but i can't be sure. I actually have another issue with google cookies. Every time i restart firefox , my cookie for google/youtube doesn't work and i have to log in every single time. This is a recent thing that started happening in the last week. I think most of my other cookies work okay, but i'm not sure if it's all of them. Either way, when i restarted in safe mode, that issue didn't dissapear either, I still had to log in.

It says i'm using the Default theme in normal mode, i can't choose the default theme in safe mode though. I just have the "Menu bar" turned on ,because i like to have those buttons in plain view.

Some anti-virus and disk cleaning programs also remove data from web browsers. Open all of those programs options and have them leave the browsers alone.

Also check the privacy setting to make sure cookies are not removed.

Type about:preferences#privacy <Enter> in the address bar.

The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

Yes, this is what i am afraid of/neurotic about ,that's why i manually removed the two firefox add on's, instead of cleaning it up with adwcleaner. I don't want to cause additional problems while trying to fix the issues. Although I'm not necessarily familiar with how to circumvent the automatic options on all of these programs.

Yes , i clicked on custom settings and on all the remember and accept cookies. But then when i refresh the privacy tab it just goes back to "Remember history" The privacy tab has been changed quite a bit.

Also I tried running kasperski , but it crashed during the scan at around 60% , possibly because i had avast or skype running. I will try doing another scan, but the only thing it found was an ivona_sapi5_voice_v1.6.63.dll ,and it's probably a false positive.

Kasperski ended up creating more problems than it solved

Sounds similar to this thread: When I exit Firefox, it claims to have one more tab open than is shown. How do I see the hidden tabs? It seems that one user tracked the problem down to an extension, while it's not clear what caused the problem for the other users.

If the problem occurs on one particular website and a visible window or tab is opened, it might be something about the coding on that website.

Well it's the same title and it looks the same. There are some tabs that are hidden as well, that's also true. My tabs counter shows i have 209 tabs, but i only have about 30 that are visible. There are some that aren't hidden though ,and as far as i know I think the "hidden ones" are tabs i've closed by myself. The non-hidden ones are some kind of error that happens ,firefox crashes and then the new session has these coded messages instead of 1/4th of my tabs.

I haven't signed up for youtube html5 either...

I don't know what 'Download Youtube Videos as mp4' (ver. 1.7.18) is. I don't think i've ever had an addon with that name, but i've had a few others, so it's not completely out of the question that i've had it installed at some point.

My youtube addons at the moment are:

Youtube Subscriptions Grid 1.10 true jid1-PmCaAQKMFABjHg@jetpack youtubecustomhomepage 1.1 true {52db74c9-f566-42f2-9cb0-e72dd97f916d}

Hi shadyz, the tabs that you previously closed should not be counted as either open or hidden. The hidden tabs usually are in a different tab group. You can use Ctrl+Shift+e to open and close the tab groups screen to see whether they are there.

This is a guess, but I have to think that only a video downloader or other Youtube-related extension would be doing this. Or perhaps it is a different extension which is causing the video-related extension to malfunction. If you check the reviews or support sites for your more important video-related add-ons (the ones you don't want to disable), can you find any other reports of this issue or tips on how to avoid it?

Hi shadyz, I just re-read your post and noticed this:

The non-hidden ones are some kind of error that happens ,firefox crashes and then the new session has these coded messages instead of 1/4th of my tabs.

Does this problem appear only after a session restore (either at startup, on demand, or recovering from a crash)? This could indicate a problem with corruption in your session history file(s).
