Every time shortly after starting Firefox, it asks me for the master password. I've read that it has to do with synchronisation via a Firefox account and the saved login credentials for that account. But I use sync exclusively for bookmarks, not for logins.

Is there a way to use the master password, use sync for bookmarks, but prevent Firefox from pestering me with the master password when I don't need to log in to a website?

  1. 1: I hit Firefox tab to open browser and am immediately required to type in Primary Password, entered, presumably accepted.
  2. 2: However, the "Sign In" box reappears a second time requiring re-entering the Primary Password; again primary password is entered (presumably accepted).
  3. 3: Astonishingly, the "Sign In" box reappears a third time requiring typing Primary Password, comply (presumably accepted).

Unbelievably, this continues ... The "Sign In" box reappears, hit cancel. "Sign In" box reappears, hit cancel.

Why? Why? Why? I'm ticked off, want to "throw in the towel" and head back to rival browser.

Laptop had issues booting (icky Dell and Windows 11).

When I rebooted and opened Firefox, I was prompted with a Password Required dialog box and a request to "Please enter your Primary Password."

I've never set a primary password, or a master password when that term was used.

I've seen I can reset my primary password, but I lose my saved logins. I know that's not too hard to re set up....

But why am I being asked to enter a password I've never set?

Password manager not usable

After using Firefox for many years, I decided to use a master password in Firefox, and unfortunately found out that this feature is not really a security for private data. When using a master password, the Firefox browser reacts arbitrarily when asking for the password. Sometimes the query appears immediately, sometimes later. And everyone has immediate access to saved bookmarks, despite this protection. The protection reacts too late or not at all. So the protection makes no sense from my point of view. If the protection should only be there to secure the access data, then the query of the master password should be much more useful or? This arbitrary reaction of the browser is extremely annoying and nonsensical. So from my point of view either a query on startup of Firefox, or a query when you want to access the password database would be much more useful. As this function is currently offered, it is simply unbreakable! Therefore my request... Please improve or revise the function.
